First I'd like to thank everyone for reading this thread and giving me suggestions.

I would like to setup a system for Movies and Everyday Network Television viewing (60%), Gaming(20%) and Music once in a while (20%).

I would like to make this setup as clean as possible, small speakers preferred but I don't want to compromise quality for size. I don't want the rears to get in way.

As of right now all I have is the television (61" Samsung DLP 1080p) and a comcast cable box with dvi and component hookups

My budget - $2000

Here is the sketch of the room I would like to place the speakers in.

I need help with:
-1. Speaker Placement
-2. Types of speakers (fronts, center, rears, and subwoffer)
-3. What receiver to get?

I had asked questions before and majorloser had suggested that I place the rear speakers above the kitchen cabinets. (It was a good idea but I dont want to make any holes in the wall) so that option is out.

MDS said that I could place the speakers behind the couch. Didn't really like the idea that much at the beginning but now I'm thinkin I could run the wires under the carpet and make that work. (I really dont want the speakers behind the couch to get in the way....not really worried about the people running into em, but I dont want the speakers to get knocked over)

If someone could please take the image above and mark out where I should place these speakers.....I'd really appreciate that.

Below are some more pictures of the room I would like to do this setup in.

I hope I have given enough info to help yall help me

Thank You

wanted to apologize in advance for making a new post here....already asked the mods to either move the old one here or remove it.

sorry....I know its bad manners...I found out after I did it.

Looks like you have attic access. I would go in there and mount the speakers behind the couch about 6 feet and slightly wider than the width of the couch.

It would involve all of a few screw holes in the ceiling and you could easily run cabling across and then down the media niche wall to connect them.

If you moved, it would simply be a matter of filling a few 1/8- to 3/16-inch holes with spackle paste. I'd do it in a rental if that tells you anything...

Your "money" seat will be the leftmost position on the couch when facing the TV.

I apologize for not giving more info. This is a 2 story house (4400sq ft) and there isn't any attic space. I really can't make any holes in the walls to complete the project.

That looks like a tough one. If you don't want to put any holes in the ceiling or walls the only option you have is to run the cable under the carpet which can be done. Like Clint stated mounting the speakers in the ceiling is going to give you the best surround effect. I've had surround speakers mounted on stands close to the seating position before and if they are too close they can be distracting.

Your home looks new. Did you by chance look at it while it was under construction? If the trusses run from the media niche to the wall where your cabinets are located it might be possible to pull cables to mount the speakers on the ceiling. The holes won't be very big and can easily be covered if you ever take them down.

I've had good luck with Def Tech satellite speakers if that's the way you want to go. I always recommend full size front tower speakers but if you are not going to listed to music that much the satellites will work fine. You can't go wrong with anything from Denon, Yamaha, and Harman Kardon in a mid-fi receiver but whatever you do make sure it has HDMI switching.

Good luck!

I would have mounted them slightly behind, my ear height in standing, right on the edge of the window (moving the tree 1/2 a feet back) and on the other wall parallely (i gues it would come right above the vase). Both rears angled slightly towards the sofa ( a wall mount would help here). Speakers I would choose would have white panels to match the room and using white cable to blend with the walls. Best way as suggested by others would be to lay the wires beneath the carpet.

That counter in the back is just begging for one of these.

It's not overly powerful, but if you just want effects sounds from behind, throw this on the back counter with your speakers and you're off to the races.

That looks cool, have you heard this in action?i have a similar situation and i want the rear notes if possible,is this clean?any interference or hums or whistles?
