I setup a brand new Sharp LC-52D92U for display yesterday. It's the newest model from Sharp that replaces the D62U series that was praised for its performance but plauged with banding problems.

All I can say is that this is simply the BEST looking LCD I have EVER seen. It's right up there with the Pioneer Elite PRO-FHD1 1080p plasma sitting next to it. Blacks are black, not gray, not blue, but black! Deep black! Colors are amazing and the picture settings out of the box are excellent. I hooked the TV up to a Tarakan HD feed generator made for Sony that pumps beautifully filmed 1080p content through HDMI and it blows away the Sony SXRD set that the box was previously connected to. They design of the TV itself is also very attractive with it's detatchable speakers and solid aluminum trim pieces.

Sharp has really pushed LCD technology forward with this set. It blows away the Sony XBR 2/3's in overal picture quality and especially black levels. I see no hint of banding on this set. If you're looking for a flat panel display don't buy without looking at the Sharp D92U series first!

I recently demo'd the 46" model. It really does shine. The black is amazing on it, and the color looked very good, but I wasn't sure about the banding thing. The big box stores are so bright and the damn settings are set to fry your eyes.

On paper it looks good too, 120hz, 4ms, 3 hdmi, etc. But the two reviews I read said they still had banding issues - see what Cnet had the say.
