What do you guys think of this combination? i was thinking about getting the ultra theater combo, but i heard a lot of "bugs" with the lmc-1, so i decided, what if i get the onkyo 804 to be used as a pre/pro.anyone own or used the onkyo before and want to chime in :). Is an external amp necessary with the onkyo or does it have enough power already. it will be driving 2 jbl e100 with dual 10" woofers for the front.

i chose the onkyo because and it can do lcm over hdmi while having a average price tag.

I would recommend the 804 but I would wait on purchasing an external amp. The 804 is THX certified and capable of driving 4 ohm speakers so will probably be just fine in terms of power.

You can always add an amp later if you feel you actually need more power.

another question.

i heard the onkyo 804 only does 5.1 lcpm over hdmi. Can i apply dolby PLiix to the 5.1?

That doesn't make sense to me. If you mean you heard that it cannot pass DD/DTS 5.1 over HDMI then that is wrong. You can apply PLIIx to ANY 2 channel analog or digital signal as well as DD 5.1/6.1 regardless of which input it came from.

no, what i meant is that it can only accept 5.1 lpcm over the hdmi connection and cant accept 7.1 lpcm. so i was wondering since it cant take in 7.1 source, can i apply PLIIx to the 5.1 and make use of the rear surrounds instead of just having them hanging on the wall.
