Hey guys first time here!

Well I got a Sony Dav-C990 from eBay, and the guy said the subwoofer did not come with cables, so I think you guys know who the dav-c990 cables look like? Its like a normal 12 gauge wire which goes to the subwoofer and the end that connects to system is like a 2-way prong.

Well I know the cables you can buy from here, but they are totaling to $30 including s/h which is pathetic for a cable!

I dont really want to buy those so was wondering if I can getem anywhere cheaper or if there was a guide to make my own.

Thanks!

Unless it is a proprietary Sony cable anything that fits will do the trick. I would search a local RadioShack first, then try an online place like monoprice.com.

It is a proprietory cable and I think you will have to buy the one from the website if you want to use the system.

$30 is not an outrageous amount of money for a cable. It may be for that specific proprietary cable but it is rather typical of, say, a 2 meter component video cable. Now that's about the maximum I would ever spend on that type of cable but one could spend a huge amount more than that.

Yep...it is a proprietary Sony cable. I use to have a Sony dream system and when I sold it the guy wanted the wires and cables.(I had cut them off really short) I just used some wire connecters that are normally used in the auto industry and crimped them on the end of the skinny sony wire; they plugged into the reciever but where a little loose. The guy that purchased the system said it worked great. Total cost was $1.

Sony is one of the few HTIAB manufacturers that actually does this, they don't want you to upgrade your speakers or cabling, because they are big doodoo heads.:D

Just one more reason to not buy Sony products.

The Panasonic HTIB system that MY WIFE BOUGHT (I stress this heavily) a few years ago has a funky cable that hooks the sub to the "receiver". You can only use this cable to get it to work.

Additionally, she bought the system because it has "wireless" rear speakers (when she spent another $100 on the not included additional equipment). She did this because my old Sony reciever died and she didnt' like my Polk RT6 towers I had since 1997 or so.

Needless to say, it was the last electronics based purchase she has ever made without expressed written consent from me.

:D

I thought the "wireless" speakers on the Sony was amusing. You got rid of a wire running from front to back but that was replaced by an extra wire running from rear right to rear left, an AC cord to power the rear speakers and two transmitters to send a signal to the rear amp from the AVR. You should have seen the mess I had going on when I ran all this through the walls.

But what the heck...It got me through a year and was better than nothing. I paid a 800 bucks for it and sold it for 500 a year later.

Exactly. It is "wireless" only in the terms of there is no wire from the "receiver" to the rear speakers. But the transmitter you need to receive the signals needs to be plugged in and you still have to run the speaker wire from the speakers to the transmitter.

Alas, I am still trying to save for a good receiver (leaning towards the Yamaha rx-v2700) but getting it near the top of the Purchase List isn't going to be easy...
