Bookshelf or Tower??

I've been reading a few posts and would like some opinions on which type of speakers to go with for my L-C-R speakers, tower or bookshelf?
My room is 26'x14.5'x7.5'. Budget is a consideration as I'm limited to $1500 TOPS for all A/V (speakers, sub, receiver).
I am currently planning on bookshelf speakers, mounted in an enclosure I've built into the wall (the room is unfinished). I have room for towers though, if they are affordable.
Thanks.

So long as you have a good sub, and considering your limited budget, I would think that bookshelf speakers will be fine, just get the best ones you can.

With a budget like that you would be able to get the most bang for your buck in a bookshelf speaker. Also keep in mind that putting bookshelf speakers in some kind of an enclosure will usually restrain them from performing as well as they can. I'm not sure what exactly you have built already so its hard to say how much they will be affected. Most folks usually do have to reach a compromise between looks and performance though, so it really comes down to whatever you would rather have.

Bookshelf, and you will probably want to look for sealed ones as placing speakers inside an enclosed area is generally not a good plan, whether bookshelf or tower.

Bookshelf are fine. But as others have said, be sure they are either sealed or front ported.

Do most speaker manufacturers make a sealed or ported speaker? SVS, AV123, HSU?

I was planning on setting them so the front of the speaker was out past the wall and putting foam in behind the speakers.

If you were to do that then buy front ported speakers. Ported speakers come either rear or front ports and rear ported can't be used in your application. Sealed would work as well and the svs sbs01 are sealed, I only use this as an example.

JMO you can get better bookshelf speakers then floorstanders for that budget.

And again I'm going to recommend these

Seems that the rear ported speakers make up the majority of what's available. But there are exceptions. I know that the Infinity Primus line is front ported. The beta's are rear ported. Sealed can be harder to find.

I'll second that, however, since the room is currently unfinished, and you want to have the speakers in the wall, you *might* be better off with in wall speakers.

Paradigms are also front ported... which is what I was after when I was shopping, due to my strange room layout...

Maybe you might be best served by saving up a bit more for speakers...

You won't regret getting a better quality speaker.. :)
