Marantz vs. Onkyo???

Would the Marantz SR 5001($800.00)CDN or SR 6001($1150.00 CDN be an upgrade from my Onkyo SR701 receiver which sell for about ($935.00) CDN? The rear speakers, centre channel and subs are powered through my a/v receiver and the front speakers are powered seperately through an Acoustat Trans Twin Nova 200 power amp. I use the receiver about 50/50 for music/video. Also the NAD T753 ($1290.00)CDN was recommended to me? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you don't mind my asking, what specifics improvements were you looking to obtain? Is it just the upgrade itch (which is fine :p)? Your Onkyo is a very decent unit, so I wouldn't want to recommend an upgrade that isn't necessary :).

I think the 6001 will sound better than the Onkyo and will have a few more features, but in real world power they will be about the same. If you have a power issue, you should seriously look at powering subs with a separate amp/amps as well as they draw more current than anything else. Once you do that, I don't see why you shouldn't stick with the Onkyo.

Well I haven't done much to my system for a while and was looking at areas to improve, so I guess you could say it is an upgrade itch. I happy with the Onkyo and could do much worse but also better. I guess what i'm trying to figure out is the $$$ amount it would take to get my receiver to the next level where it would make a noticeable difference in sound quality. So if my receiver is a $1000.00 unit am I looking at the $1500.00 range, $2000.00 range, $2500.00 range to get to that next level where it's not just a marginal difference. Hope this helps a little? Thanks for the reply.

Will the sound be noticable or just a slight improvement? I don't have a power issue, I power my front speakers seperately with an Acoustat Trans Nova Twin 200 power amp. Maybe I should power my subs instead??? Thanks for the relpy.

Maybe buy an Emotiva LPA-1 for all the speakers and run the subs off your existing amp? For $499 I think it would be a heck of an upgrade.

Minimal to no audible difference, especially if you are already using seperate amplifiers.:)
