H/K on Amazon; Too good to be true?

Hey all, can someone explain this?

A $900 dollar receiver for $450!?

When you put the receiver in your cart, Amazon claims "Condition: New". Furthermore, H/K lists them as an authorized retailer.

Is this too good to be true? Or will I be buying one of these soon? ;)

I don't know of anywhere that's trying to sell those for $900. Going mostly from memory, it seems to be an average deal, nothing spectacular.

Okay, cool. So would my thinking be correct to say that this receiver would stack up to other brands receivers' in the $500-600 range?

When it comes to video capabilities, it's rather simple compared to what you generally find in the ~$500 price range today. Only two component video inputs and no HDMI. I haven't fully investigated its other relative capabilities.

I find the Onkyo TX-SR674 to be a great deal in that price region with the notable exception that it lacks pre-outs for all but the subwoofer. Even if one doesn't plan to use them, it's a bit of a disappointment to me.

There's an open box HK AVR340 at OneCall for $339.97, if you're still interested in one.

Harman Kardon's refurb store sells items like this a lot, that is where I got my AVR 235 (MSRP $550) for $180. It works great!

Oh, and why are you running Firefox with a "Safari" theme on Vista? Conflict of interest? ;)

It might be too good to be true. Sometimes these are close outs or gray market and might not have a warranty that the manufacturer will honor. I don't know how to check on that but that could be why it is so cheap.

That would be gay, does anyone else have thoughts on it?

They've got an Onkyo TXSR803 at accessories4less.com for $550 plus shipped. It's got 2 hdmi inputs 1 output. 7.1 105w/channel, 3 sets of componements. Preouts for each channel. And the sites an authorized Onkyo dealer, so you can pick up 3 year warranty for $40.
