I'm sure this has been covered some where... but to no avail... my search.... like my bank account came up empty....

I have a 62" Philips rear projection, and a Sony 800 series HDMI 7.1 Receiver, My perplexing pandamonia comes from this... The TV is HD Ready, however the rear of the set, only has RGB H V component connections. How does one go From HDMI or RGB component to this type of a set up.

Video connections

Frank, I am not aware of any receivers that down convert from HDMI to component video. Your best bet is to use component video from the receiver to the TV and from each source to the receiver.

Since you can't take advantage of HDMI, you might be able to return the receiver for a less expnesive model. For example, the Yamaha RX-V659 has plenty of power and features for about $400. Also, since you aren't using HDMI, you will need a digital optical or coax connection for audio from each source to the receiver.

Double check your TV for DVI digital inputs because DVI and HDMI are compatible.

Thanks for the Reply JC-

I am probably just bit more on the miffed side, as I had purchased this TV because it was HD capable... but not to have a way to use these capabilities that I had paid a premium for at the time of purchase (11/04) is .... well a bit annoying. Even Philips does not support their own product, as was the result of my phone call to them last nite. On this television, The Back has an area "MARKED" HD this is video 4 the RCA Jacks in this area are marked R G B H syn and V syn + R/L audio The other Video inputs on the Back are your standard S-vid, yellow vid input and the R/L audio. Some where along the line I am supposed to enjoy watching Movies and television.... this is not happening...yet.

I see you have H and V posted. Does the manual explain what that is? Horizontal and vertical sync inputs? If so, you may have some problems, not sure.

No notations in the manual as the specific function of the H and V Snyc function, I can only guess that this would refer to Horizontal and Vertical As for now I have the Standard S-Vid/component hook ups going. Given the lack of useful customer support I have received from Philips I can only speculate that my next Video Display unit will not be from them. Thanks to all who responded. And to one of this sites sponsors Blue Jean Cables, the gentle man I spoke with today was both informative and curtious.

If that H and V are sync inputs, a DVD with component out will not work I am pretty sure.
You can try it and see if it will but...

Can you list the model number of the TV? I have a Philips HD that I got in '05 and it has an HDMI input. I'm sure the model can be looked up and maybe we could get a little more info that way.

Sorry to hear it Frankenstien but I suspect you are part of a long queue of people who bought into HD marketing hype a couple of years ago(I assume by 11/04 you mean november 2004?). I have a few friends who bought plasma displays back then which look no better than your average CRT unit, but were dubbed " HD ready ". Worst case scenario is your display can receive a HD signal (what did Phillips class as HD back then?) but only shows SD, or best case scenario is I am way of the mark and you haven't found the right connection yet.

Whats the model number?
