Right now the top 50 Blu-ray titles are ranked higher than the top 10 HD DVD titles.

There are 16 Blu-ray titles in the top 100 DVD discs.
There are 56 Blu-ray titles in the top 1000 DVD discs.

Sweet savings.

I found 3 on that list I would buy but one needs a player first. The more I read about player issues, the more it seems that I need to postpone my purchasing for later. And, I also need the other makes too.

What's interesting is that these prices give you an indication of the mark up they're slapping on these discs. Amazon bought excessive inventory for the Christmas holiday now it's clean up time. I posted in another forum that Nielsen (ratings, marketing trends, etc) had Bluray outselling HD-DVD 2 to 1, this is something my "insider" at BB had told me before Nielsen published.

I just don't see that happening....two years plus in the making, and big marketing bucks. There's no way they paided for R&D yet.

Looks like they are dumping excess inventory but I doubt the formats are dying. 1080p TVs and projectors are on the market and as prices fall on these players, people will buy. The picture can be stunning, especially on a very large screen
The public has been conditioned to HT over the years. Speakers are set for many and as TV is upgraded, so will the HD movie end as well.
Or, I will have a long life of gloom with standard def

My experience has been that they arrive before date given. Only once, did an item (book) arrive on the specified date.

BluRay won't go anywhere...at the very least, the PS3 will be around for years to come and it will continue to support it. Though, I see BluRay being around as well... Visually, I don't see much of a difference between the two, so it really comes down to hardware pricing.

It's looking more and more likely that Blu-ray will win this stupid war.

I personally won't be buying into it until there is a player that does everything that the format can do, and at present thats none of them.

My list of player requirements
1) It needs to support all the audio codec's fully
2) Have 7.1 analogue outputs as well as HDMI 1.3
3) Support ALL forms of interactivity (this is a big one and what a mess that is)
4) Output the raw 1080p/24 data direct from the disc w/o any conversions within the player(IIRC current 1080p/24 output players actually convert to 1080i/60 then back to 1080p24 before it's spit out of the player)
5) Be region free or at least have a region free crack for both DVD and Blu-ray(I'm from Australia, so no legal BS please)
6) And all of this for under AU$1000(Panasonic DMP-BD10 RRP AU$2749 )

So as you can see I'll be waiting for a while yet And seriously No's1-5 should have been the players minimum support from the start, get your act together guys you've had over 5 years to sort this s**t out

I would say once Disney starts to release the classics on BD, the war will definitely favor Blu-ray.

I've heard from several places the adult industy was having trouble with blueray. Sony wasn't allowing major blueray producers to make adult title discs. They can of course film them, but getting mass distribution is the problem.

What I'm getting at is....I think that had a major roll in the VHS-Beta war. Something like 60 to 70 percent of the movies rented or purchased the first year were adult titles.

Visually, I don't see much of a difference between the two, so it really comes down to hardware pricing.

I'd be more inclined to look at the studio support. I don't mind paying $100 more for a player to allow me to have more than 3 times the titles.
Blu-ray gives you everyone except Weinstein and Universal.
HD DVD cannot give you Fox, MGM, Sony, Columbia/Tri-star, Buena Vista, Disney, Pixar, Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures and Lionsgate.
That was what made it an easy call for me.

One title I bought right away was The Fifth Element for $14.95. Sony have completed the remastering of this title for its 50GB release. They know the master was not in good shape for the original one and will be doing some sort of swap program for those that bought the 25GB version. This means to me I can get a nice clean 1080p transfer of The Fifth Element with LPCM 5.1 sound. Deal, deal and deal.
