Hey Guys,

I am thinking about buying a surround sound system. I was thinking of just getting a HTIB since I am not quite ready to buy a custom setup. Can someone please recommend to me the best HTIB system for your buck. Or a recommendation on what individual compenents to buy at a reasonable price.

THanks

Try the Hsu ventriloquist package with a matching sub and any decent receiver and DVD player. You'll be much better off.

Are you comfortable purchasing off the internet? Also, have you considered just buying an A/V receiver and just front speakers for the time being and then upgrading piece by piece when you budget allows in the future?

Hey CN,

For about 1200.00 you can get the Gallo HTIB (5.1 system), for small rooms, IMO they are hard to beat both for sound and build quality. I've had mine for a while now and I highly recommend them, also look up Orb audio, same concept.

I have an Onkyo HTS907 and am pretty happy with it, take in consideration that this is my first HTIB and it is mainly used for movies and occasional music playing from the pc. It serves all my needs. As far as sound quality, I have no complaints but I have to turn the center speaker 2 decibels louder to my liking. That link is the cheapest I found so far when I purchased it 4 months ago.

Speaker and receiver options

You could get an Onix X-LS (av123.com) 5.1 speaker system for about $700 and a $300 Yamaha or Pioneer receiver. This would perform much better than the HTIB systems in your price range. If this is too much, consider starting with a 3.1 or 2.1 system and expanding into 5.1

Some less expensive speaker options include the Athena Audition series and Bic Venturi line for about $100/pair.
