Yamaha RX V2600 Surround Help

When I run Auto Setup my unit shuts down when it gets to the surround sound speaker check. I've double checked my wiring and I get the test sound when I do a manual setup. I just don't seem to get any surround sound out of them. My speaker configuration is 2 Front, 1 Center, and 2 Surround Rear. I have (2) Zone 2 speakers in the surround connections and (2) Zone 3 speakers in the Presence connections. Any help would be grately appreciated.

Thanks

It seems like you’ve got the surround wiring switched. The 5.1 HT surrounds are wired to the side-surrounds and Zone 2 goes to the rear-surround connections.

Sounds like you may have a short or bad surround amp. A short is not out of the question; unless you're using banana plugs, the crowded speaker terminals of the 2600 can cause a short. Also, what is the impedance of your speakers?

Yamaha speaker connections

You can only use the Yamaha presence speakerce with a 5.1 main HT and no powered zone 2 speakers.

First, decide how you want to use the receiver (5.1 + presence, 7.1, or 5.1 + powered zone2) and configure it in the receiver menu.

Next, make the appropriate connections and run the auto setup. As previously suggested, for 5.1 you will have the (side) surround speakers, but NO surround back speakers connected.

Thanks to all who replied, but....

Maybe I should explain how I want to use the system and you could tell me how to wire it (I'm quite the novice). I'd like to have 5.1 in the livingroom, zone 2 in the kitchen and zone 3 outside.

Thanks again in advance for any help

Speaker Connections

FB,
Configure the receiver for a 5.1 HT with "powered" Zone 2 speakers. This should take care of the main HT and the speaker in the kitchen.
You should be able to run the autosetup with these connections without any errors.

For the Patio, you will need an outboard stereo amp to connect to the Line Level Zone 3 output (Red/White RCA connections) from the Yamaha receiver. An inexpensive audiosource amp with 50+ watts should work find for this application.
