Always liked the older JBL and Altec speakers , Altec not around to much anymore :( and i dont have time to test drive speaker anymore , nor do i really want any more . But i do like both lines of speakers and have a good use in most systems today .

How about this,

1.) Click the make a thread button.
2.) Title your thread "Official JBL thread".
3.) Wait for the 8 people on the forum that have JBL products to post and discuss.

Seriously, you can have any thread you like. JBL doesn't have that much backing here, and haven't done anything extraordinary lately, so it won't be that hot of a thread.

Good to hear that Clint,

and a good starting point would be indeed the Studio L Series.
Looking forward for your reviews though.

Cheers

It may not be kosher to post links to other a/v sites and their (ahem) bit more timely reviews of the Studio L Series. But if you google JBL Studio L Loudspeaker you find a gaggle of recent glowing reviews that basically say that JBL is back in the 21st century technological fray with big bang-for-the-buck speaker craft. Again, the company is using trickle down innovation...applying new, top flight studio monitor designs to the more affordable home audio world.

Of course, an Audioholics review would be much more appreciated and valued. Wouldn't it?! ;)

resurected L-1s

I recently moved and decided to set up a music room dedicated to 2 channel music since I seem to have a lot of unused equipment laying around. I am a horder of speakers I have quite a collection in my basement. I grabbed a pair of JBL L-1 bookshelfs and some sturdy speaker stands, hooked them up to a 90's era Yamaha receiver. They sound great. I just wish I could get some new grills and logos.

I think Harmon International made a concious choice that Infinity would be their consumer speaker brand back in the late 90's and JBL would be the commercial choice. The JBL's that Best Buy sells are not competitive with other products in their price range, but I love my L-1s.

A little off the subject, I just got hold of a mint condition Rotel 1100Q turntable. It just doesn't have a belt. I've seen a couple of sites that sell belts. Anyone have any experience with these web parts merchants?

Whats rare as hens teeth is the b-460 sub that was an option with the l-250's.

I was watching that auction, the seller ended it early then relisted them, the seller is not telling the truth about the speakers either.

The l-250's did come with grills only they were attached with velcro strips instead of pegs & holes in the cabinets, the tweeters are missing their black wire mesh covering & gasket plus the woofers are missing the mounting rings,he also isnt telling the truth about their value when he says that the l-250 is more desirable than the later version l-250 ti,the ti version is much more desirable & are worth more.

Be carefull if your planning on bidding on these !

The Blue Book says they were $3000 at retail.

I wonder what I could get for my 240ti's. I have been thinking alot about switching to onix rockets... I've had the 240ti's since new, but a lot has happened with technology in the last 20 years.

I am not sure if it would be an improvement but curiousity is getting to me...

These look pretty sharp. I think they are only available in Europe.

Tomorrow's right, those Project Everest speakers have drawn quite a bit of attention. I'd love to hear them, but realistically I'd be lucky to see a pair in real life! I still have my JBL L100's from the 1970's, still rocking! Someone mentioned the old Altec speakers, now those were great speakers! Some versions of the Altec VOTT speakers are still a very high standard by which to measure other speakers. I'll never sell my VOTT's, true classics, big classics.

Wow, there are a lot of skeletons emerging from closets here. I guess it's my turn. I have a pair of bookshelf JBL Pro IIIs I got in the 80's. They measure 6" x 9" with a weather resistant coating. You wouldn't leave them in the rain obviously, but you could put them out on a patio during a party and if they got splashed from a pool, or a drink spilled on them it wouldn't harm them. You know? they're not a bad sounding little pair of speakers really. (Why do I feel like Linus talking about the sad little Christmas tree in the Peanuts Christmas special?)
