Hello:
I have DENON 3805 with no HDMI connections but has 7.1 channles to output. The new HD DVD and Blue Ray DVD will carry 7.1 DD+ audio channles that can transmit via HDMI cabel. How would I be able to use my 3805 with HD/Blue Ray to hear 7.1 channles ? Would current COAX or OPTICAL digital cabel work with HD/Blue Ray DVD player to carry 7.1 ? Or I must have HDMI on the receiver ?

Thank you.

Good question I'm not 100% sure myself but I think the dvd player will determind this. I think the first generation toshiba HD A1 allowed for 5.1 direct analog output, but not the HD A2. The newer and more expensive HD XA2 player should as well. As for 7.1, you got me!:) No digital cable will carry hi res. audio, that I know. As for the receiver with hdmi 1.3 that would be a major benefit.:)

All HDMI versions will carry 8 channel PCM but it depends on the player and receiver as to whether they can send and/or receive the signal. I have a thread (Confirming HDMI 7&8 channel pass through?) but there is no way of knowing because I don't think there is any 7.1 media yet.

cheers:)

Thanks Guys,
So It seems that 3805 will be limited to 5.1 ?
