Power issue with HTR-5790--Immediate entry to standby mode

Thanks for the input. Tried an alternate outlet on a different circuit......and no power off. Works fine. Which points to something on the original outlet or its power circuit. Strange thing is that the HDTV and Cable box are working just fine. No odd behavior at all.

I tried two distinct scenarios on the "bad" outlet. First is with the receiver plugged intio into a good commercial grade Panamax surge protector (where it has run happily for more than a year). Second, with nothing else on the electrical circuit powered up, plugged the receiver into the wall outlet directly. Both of these caused the power-on/quick power off. Then moved to another outlet in the house, worked fine. Now, when I go BACK to the original outlet, powers up with no issue. Thoughts on what I should be looking at before I hook everything back up?
Good stuff
Just start from basics and go from there .

Wire, that's not the point

Wire, what I paid for it isn't the point. It's a 2 year old piece of decent electronic gear that should not end up taking up space in a landfill because of a potentially minor issue. I'd at least take it in to service first to get an estimate before I slung it on the trash heap. I also happen to like it. :) In any event, it looks like it might not be an equipment issue at all.

Hmmm...fire potential

Seth, Thanks for easing my mind LOL. Yes, a house fire had entered my mind. What's orse, no sound or a fire. For some around here it might be a toss-up. :p I'll mess around with things and see if it re-occurs or not. If it does, it will cost about 75 bucks to get it looked at. Really don;t want to throw it out. It has pretty much everything I need except for HDMI and I get that straight to the TV from the cable box anyway.

He, I wish I did, I didn't pay retail anyway. I was refering to the retail of his unit.:)

To answer you question Mike, having no sound is worse than having a fire.:D

Were do you live? $75 is to much I would try to find at the very least $50 for the service. I am only paying $35 for my appraisal of my M&K MX-100 (flat rate from a reputable audio/video retail and service center).

Yeah, it's a lot but it's close

Yeah, 75 is a lot, but he said the repair should not exceed 200 and would probably be much less. And the shop is less than three miles form my house. He has seen the issue before. But hopefully I won't even have to go there. Keeping fingers crossed.
