receiver and dvd player for 1500 and under?

What type of receiver and dvd player would you all reccomend for a 6.1 system. I am new at all of this and am looking to spend about 1,200-1500 on both a DVD player and a receiver. Also, if i have a PS3 do i even need a DVD player or do you reccomend a more advanced dvd player that the PS3 cant compare to? thanks so much for taking to time to help.

If you have about 1500 then get the Emotiva amp/pre-pro combo. As for the DVD, get the Pioneer Elite 46. You'll be set for yrs to comes. Nothing beats separates. I'm currently saving up for the Anthem 50 pre-pro.

For that budget, I would reccomend the Yamaha RX-V1700 and the Oppo DV-981HD.

Denon DVD-3910 on Vann's for $800.00 is hard to beat. It is reference quality video and excellent audio performance.

The remainder of the budget can be used for any mid-fi receiver, they all are essentially the same in the $700.00 price bracket.

Is it really that much better than the Oppo? That's $600 less he has to spend on sound.

I say go with the Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver and an Oppo DV-981HD DVD player. That's definitely within your budget.
