Hello,
I am designing my home theater system before finishing our new condo basemant. I have Infinity in wall and in cieling speakers for 7.1 surround. I have 2 other cieling speakers over by a bar. klipsch rw-12 sub. I have a plan of Pioneer elite 50" plasma 1140, pioneer elite dv46a dvd, pioneer elite vsx84 reciever. My questions are if i plan on using ipod to transmit all music and some movies will this be transmitted in hd or something close? Also what does everyone think of my ideas. I have some time to make changes if anyone has recomendations. thanks in advance for any help.

HD or High Definition refers to Video, not Audio. The iPod has only one analog headphone output so the best you will get from it is 2 channel stereo.

The VSX-84TXSi has an included Ipod cable so that will help. My pure assumption is that video off the Ipod is not close to HD quality (just as the audio of most MP3 tracks is not nearly that of CD quality). That being said, due to the upscaling and upcompression of the AVR, it may actually up convert the video feed.

I'm supposed to be picking up my VSX-84TXSI tomorrow and I'll look through the manual and see if it mentions anything (you can also download the manual from the Pioneer website if wanted to).

Bar speakers

Cronick,
Make sure you have a seperate 2-channel amp to power the bar speakers you should be able to connect it to the Zone 2 line level output on the receiver. You should probably also wire for a Volume Control near the bar.

I have seen the term high defintion used for lossless audio, such as Dolby TrueHD. I suspect the term will gain wider use in that context.

As for the quality from the dock, AFAIK you get stereo analog and analog video (composite or S-Video output).

You should not use terms "ipod" and "HD" in one sentence, not to mention your planning ...
