i was just ready to by my rx-v659 today and started reading some company reviews on a couple places i was looking to buy from. and to my dismay all three of them have horrible customer feedback. everything from selling used products to lies that made to customers cancel the order. My question is where did you guys buy your rx-v receivers from?

RX-V's can not be bought on line. Well, they can be, but not from anyone you want to do business with. You'd have to go to a Tweeter or J&R. You can go to Yamaha's web to check for dealers. http://www.yamaha.com/yec/customer/dealer.aspx?CTID=5010030

BUT! And I do mean but. You can get the equal in HT-R from many people on the web. HTR-5960 looks like the right model. http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=200502&CTID=5000400

Here are a few sources http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php?page_id=73&form_keyword=htr+5960&mode=g_us_e_s&skd=1&rd=1

Edit: A few more: http://www.nextag.com/htr-5960/search-html

Yup, the same: http://www.yamaha.com/yec/compare/Detail.html?compitem1=&compitem2=200502&compitem3=200506&CTID=5000200&VNM=LIVE&comp_items=200506&comp_items=200502&B_compare.x=30&B_compare.y=8

Yamaha online

I had a smooth transaction buying my HTR-5860 last year from Electronics Expo, an authorized dealer. The new model, the HTR-5960, is comparable to the RX-V659.

here's what I did...

I bought m2500 from my digital universe. Not an authorized dealer, but it's 18 months and no problems. Still sounds great.

I bought my RX-V2500 from Etronics.com (an unauthorized reseller). I've had no problems with them or the unit.

I bought my DVD-C750 from a local authorized reseller. For what it's worth, when I contacted Yamaha with a question about the universal player (a firmware bug I identified, not something the reseller would be able to help me with) they were entirely unhelpful and unprofessional; if that says anything about the value of Yamaha's "official" support.

(Not to be too sour about Yamaha: I've been overall pleased with their product, just not with their customer support.)

I got my 659 from 6th Ave. I had tried to order the equivilant 5860, but they were out, so they sent me a 659 for the same price. it's great so far, had it for about a month.

Amazon.com seller was WholesaleAV. $ 280.00 plus freight ($ 22.50) applied for Amazom credit card got $ 30.00 off on first purchase.

So the RX-V659 cost me $ 272.50 factory sealed box with US warranty card and all proper paper work inside. Delivery was 5 working days from New York to South Florida via ups.

Oh Did I tell you it's one hell of a Receiver! Had it a week and it's brought back a smile on my face when I crank it up.

You Know I bet Gene sold a couple of hundred thousand of the 569 for Yamaha With his review (sold me!) and it lives up to every word.

The RX-V line can certainly be purchased online from an authorized dealer. I got my RXV-661 from onecall.com which is authorized. I have bought speakers from them before as well. They are not cut rate in pricing, but often give free fed ex three day shipping and offer good customer service in my experience.

From Yamaha's website.

What is the difference between the RX-V line and the HTR line AV receivers ?
There are many similarities between these two product lines. The RX-V line and the HTR line are produced in the same Yamaha factory using the same high quality parts throughout. The RX-V and equivalent HTR models have the same warranty periods; the same manufacturers suggested retail price, the same features, and the same remote control units. There is a cosmetic difference found on the front panels of these two lines. The RX-V line maintains the traditional white colored lettering normally found on most Yamaha components, while the HTR line provides a slightly different approach. Yamaha has created a new look by using gold colored lettering in selected areas on the HTR receiver series. However, both the RX-V line and the HTR line feature the same high quality black metal front panel construction. The amplifiers in the HTR and RX-V units are identical but rated differently to comply with the accepted measurement standards of their respective channels of distribution. Both ratings are FTC approved and are designed to handle the dynamics of today's audio and video sources. The RX-V line has the power amplifiers rated from 20-20000 Hz. The HTR line has the power amplifiers rated at 1000 Hz. Both lines can reproduce the full frequency response of 20-20000 Hz. The RX-V line is typically sold through Yamaha authorized audio/video specialty retailers, and is not available for mail order sales. The HTR line is sold through mass merchants, catalog retailers, and department stores. You may also purchase the HTR line through the mail. All transactions must be done through the authorized Yamaha dealer network. Any purchase made from an unauthorized dealer/retailer voids the Yamaha manufacturer's warranty.

But One Call is Authorized to sell them. Just not on line. See here: http://www.yamaha.com/yec/customer/dealer.aspx?CTID=5010030

It's more than likely that you will never have a problem with your Yammie. It's just good to know up front if you are getting an authorized warranty or not. If not, then a discount is in order.:D

I get your point, but am 1000% sure onecall will back up the sale and warranty. onecall does not sell pioneer elite online because they aren't allowed to. I am quite sure they wouldn't sell the RXV line either unless yamaha allowed them to.

As for using your warranty, I am presently using a 3 year warranty on my 2 year old Marantz receiver, so it can happen.
