What Do You Look for in a Good Portable Speaker?

What matters most to you when choosing a portable speaker?

I usually look for:

• Clear, balanced sound
• Strong bass
• Durable build
• Good battery life
• Easy portability

I’m also curious about box speakers with unique or rugged enclosures. Do you think enclosure design makes a noticeable difference to overall sound quality?

I've had the boom box version for years and it's been the best portable speaker I've heard.

My kids have the small JBL BT speakers, and they're very good for how cheap they were.

I have a portable system (2.1) a Cambridge Soundworks Model 12 for many years, haven't really looked at what's available but the JBL stuff I do see mentioned regularly.

As to whether a better built/designed box would be beneficial for portable, sure, except perhaps for size and convenience. A good box, both design and construction, is important for speakers. I do wonder what a good speaker measurement (like with a Klippel) of the JBL would be like.....
