Sony STR-V555ES problem (Clicking). Help!!

I bought this receiver about 5 years ago, and it's served me very well.

But a few days ago, I turned it on from standby, and it started continuously clicking.

This has happened one or two times in the past, and I usually just press the power button again to put it back into standby mode, then turn it back on and it's fine.

But this time the clicking wouldn't stop, and the power button is unresponsive. The clicking only stops when I disconnect the AC power.

I've since disconnected ALL of the speakers and A/V connections on the back, and left it off for well over a day.

Despite that, when I re-attatch the AC, it IMMEDIATELY starts the clicking. None of the buttons are responsive, so I can't even try the 'reset'.

I've searched this forum and a few others for anyone with a similar problem, and while there has been the occasional referance to similar problems, I haven't found any real solution or explination as to what it could be.

I know the sound is some sort of relay switching on and off, but I'm really after finding what's causing it, and if it can be easily fixed, and whether or not it's worth my while.

Thanks for any help

If you are sure about that then it could be the connections of your power cord, the connections to the relay that is clicking/chattering or a defective/failed relay. Are you, or do you have a friend who is a qualified electrician or electronic technician?

If it is just a bad relay it shouldn't cost much to have it replaced.

Hi, Peng. The OP never came back after posting over 3.5 years ago.

You might be able to help chillypalmer, though.
