This is a graphic novella I've had rolling around in my head for a hot minute. Got three follow ups that could be churned out pretty quick. Fairly hard sci-fi, and it's with a publisher now for real illustrations, etc.

Just space. The Shadow class carriers can embark an entire marine division, and the associated landing craft would obviously have to be space to surface capable.

I diverge a little on stealth, mostly since my world is fairly efficient due to the gravity hack. It's not indefinite, but it's certainly possible to actively cool the hull to avoid giving off a big IR signature for useful periods of time. Can't hide an engine burn or weapons fire of course, so limited utility. But there can indeed be utility.

As gravity goes, great way to crush stellar hydrogen like the sun, and more importantly, contain the products. Magnetic fields can't contain neutrons, but gravity sure can.

I also cheat the hell out of the rocket equation by a factor of 10,000 or some such Capital ship acceleration in the 1g range still means things will take a minute to unfold tactically and strategically though.

And project Warspite... this one has all the bullshit i want, well mostly.

So armoring a spaceship... in this case, multi-layer whipple shields (1-2cm thick carbon plates backed by an aerogel filler; good protection against smaller scale kinetic impacts), an additional layer of carbon to protect against bremsstrahlung, followed by a tungsten alloy / carbon matrix to protect against x-rays and gamma rays.

Maraging steel as a base construction material with lots of transverse and longitudinal bulkheads, interlocking and electrically welded together along with the decks and transverse / longitudinal box frames.

With the assistance of ChatGPT, yes. I was one of the technical writers here for a while, so scripting it out wasn't a huge challenge.

At this phase though, it's with a publisher who is going to do a better job with the illustrations.

I was talking more about the big capital ships in any case. A super carrier isn't built to be at the bottom of a big natural gravity well.

As the fighters go the biggest impediment would be needing an alternate propulsion system; the main space-based one seems... unhealthy planet side.

Won't be a major plot point in any case. The Voran are just going to order us out; civilians will have the opportunity to safely leave, and the rest is just orbital bombardment.
