The "plot" wasn't very good lol. Just like Maverick wasn't a great plot either. Yet they manage to be entertaining films. F1, I just like the driving scenes. Those make it fun to me.

Oh, we are going to see Tron Ares in LA with our friend.

I like the plot of Maverick a lot better than F1. Flying to China and blowing sh!t up and then at the end of the day, get the girl too. What more does a guy want?

F1 was like - driving and driving and having to put up with some punk kid and then at the end of the day - let’s do more driving.

Maverick: $1.5 Billion
F1: $600 million

Looking forward to TRON Ares. Hope he gets the girl at the end of the day like in TRON Legacy.

Telling ya. The salient factor is the screen writer.

TRON Legacy was awesome because Joseph Kosinski wrote (and directed it).

TRON Ares was written by some no-name Jesse Wigutow. His tract record kind of sucks. So never a good sign to hire some unproven person to be screen writer.

From some of the reviews I’ve seen, the writing of Ares is pure crap, which is what I was afraid of, based on the overall works of this so-called writer.

Great. Now they’ll just scrap the whole TRON franchise again. Disney idiots.

They should have let Joseph Kosinski write and direct Ares.

I bet Kosinski is laughing his a$$ off now since they didn’t let him continue with TRON Legacy.

“Tron: Legacy” was not awesome. It was a mess met with mixed reviews that didn’t even break even after production and promotion costs. That didn’t stop me from buying the 3D Blu-ray and enjoying the audio and video presentation but I have never thought of it as awesome and think of it more like a missed opportunity.

As for “Tron: Ares,” why the f#%k is anybody still casting Jared Leto in anything? The ultimate AI soldier is the spitting image of a scrawny pretty boy now in his f#%kin’ fifties?

I saw “Tron” as a kid in theaters. It was amazing to look at but came up short in every other way. So, at least the follow ups are consistent.

Awesome in terms of personally liking the movie, not in terms of Reviews, awards, and box office.

So a movie could win Best Picture or made $1 billion PROFIT at the box office and I might think it sucks.

If I like a movie, then it’s “awesome” to me.

But obviously not everyone agrees or likes the same movies.

I never even saw the original TRON movie and have absolutely no interest since I think it looks bad and old.

Had you seen “Tron,” you could have appreciated the advancements in technical filmmaking presented in “Tron: Legacy” that much more and still be disappointed in everything else as were many “Tron” fans.

There are some scenes that can be used as demo material in “Tron: Legacy” for sure. But, make guests sit through the whole thing and some will surely fall asleep while others may leave early.

Many enjoy movies that didn’t set records at the box office or have critics raving about them. But, without good reviews from critics and audiences alike to help sell tickets, big sequels to big movies don’t get made right away. It took fifteen years for “Tron: Ares” to make it to the screen. If this one fails, expect another long wait for the next one if it comes at all.

Tron: Legacy was a bad ass movie. Loved it! Sure, it didn't smash box office records and make $1B, and it really wasn't going to. With Marvel movies starting to come out around that time, bringing back a franchise that originally came out way back in the early 80's, it was destined to not be a box office juggernaut. Tron (1982) brought in $33m domestically. Which at that time was considered box office disappointment. Tron: Legacy brought in $400m globally and made $172m domestically. They considered that a "box office success". Tron: Legacy also had one of the best soundtracks of the decade. Tron: Legacy has become a huge "cult" like classic. with having both 4k and 3D options, it was made to shine with both options. Joseph Kosinski did an awesome job with this movie. I would've liked that he came back and followed it up, but he seems to be pretty busy now with other jobs.

Having watched the new releases of both Tron movies, I was surprised at how poor the original movie was. I get that it was "groundbreaking" and very cool in it's day (I remember the buzz when it came around), but was just boring and not particularly captivating - at least not on viewing now.

I personally found Tron: Legacy to be a much more enjoyable trip. It has it's issues as well but I think the plot and story are far more digestable to the audience than the original's "Look what we're doing" sort of high-concept (at the time) meandering.

Both 4k releases looked great, given the source materials they had to start with. The original is nicely cleaned up and vibrant. The second, while upsampled, is done very well and has great contrast and punchy, vibrant colors.

A $400m return on a total budget and promotion of near $200m is not a win as studios get half of the total take. Tron: Legacy looked slick and had a great soundtrack. But, its greatest achievement was the recreation of Flynn's arcade. It was a time capsule of an era long gone. The technical advancements between "Tron" and "Tron: Legacy" are dazzling. Not so much with "Tron: Ares" and its soundtrack will help hide its flaws the way the "Tron:Legacy" soundtrack helped it. All of the "Tron" movies could have been bad ass. But, like so many other Disney productions, were gimped. Disney will make the money back when the next Avatar movie comes out and the latest technically amazing yet poorly written mess from James Cameron saves the day.

I've heard two big reviewers say "Madame Web level writing". Disney trying throw Girl boss in your face and Jared Leto nothing but a 2nd tier player in the movie. AND that his acting is horrible. There won't be any " It's Morbin time" with this one!

Oh, I thought Kosinski wrote it, but it appears he did not.

I don’t consider “Legacy” to be among my favorite movies of all times.

But I do like the story and writing. Last time I saw it was probably 2 years ago. I don’t recall any major plot holes.

Do you recall any plot holes in TRON Legacy?

Or any reason you feel the writing was bad?

I just remember the movie was cool and I liked it a lot.

I personally found Tron: Legacy to be a much more enjoyable trip. It has it's issues as well but I think the plot and story are far more digestible to the audience than the original's "Look what we're doing" sort of high-concept (at the time) meandering.

I don't recall any specifics, but just sort of the usual stuff with spectacle action popcorn movies. Some predictable plots, various script/plot conveniences, tropes or weaknesses and that sort of thing. Nothing I don't routinely overlook or forgive when simply enjoying this type of movie for what it's meant to be.

Of the two, I enjoyed Legacy much more when I watched them one night after the other.

Although I never saw the original TRON movie, I did grow up playing the TRON arcade game like a million times.

So nostalgia of the 80’s probably plays a big part of me liking “LEGACY” a lot.

So nostalgia, cool Sci-Fi visuals, good video and audio, happy ending, boy gets the hot babe in the end- all played a part of my liking of Legacy a lot.

Yeah, I suppose I wasn’t very “critical” about TRON Legacy or probably most movies - as long as they don’t have major plot holes like letting a killer go free a hundred times so they can kill again or walking into the night or dark when a killer is on the loose.

As long as the PQ/SQ are great, no obvious facepalm moments, the ending is happy, and the boy gets the hot babe, I’ll probably think the movie is “AWESOME”.
