We use APC at work and they have lasted many years. I just replace the lead-acid batteries every few years and they keep chugging along. No lightning strikes, just brown outs and power outages. Recent support issues are worrisome though. Any experience with Tripp Lite?
I used to like APC, too, but when they sent that UPS as a replacement for a product that was rated much higher, they lost me.
Not much experience with TrippLite, but I have used Furman, Panamax and others. I use a Panamax M4000 which has shut down on occasion and I assume it saved my equipment- never lost a piece. Its specs show that it shuts off <90VAC and >140VAC, which is a much tighter window than many brands with high price. The first Furman I installed was an Elite 15PFfi- I was in the room with that rack when lightning struck very close to the house and I heard a loud 'snap' sound in the room. The AV system never flinched but the yellow LED on the cellular transponder for the alarm system started blinking and I assume it was because the antenna was mounted to the gutter at the edge of the 2nd floor roof.
Just for laughs- I know a sales rep for many good AV brands and when I saw him at a grocery store, he raved about the new 'power conditioner" he had bought. Said he opened the cover and saw wires coming from the inlet and arranged in a loop before going to the outlets. Nothing else, just looped wires. Every time I explain why something can't do what is claimed, he just says "It's experiental" and changes the subject. TBH, I seriously doubt that he was he one who opened it- not sure he knows which end of a screwdriver to pound on.
