Older subwoofer specifications

Good evening.

I am wondering if anyone knows a good source for older speakers/subs to find the specifications.

I am still using dual Audio System Krypton 12 in 30x30x30cm sealed enclosure in my HT. Yes most of the HT is like 12-20 years old. Working fine. So no I not planning getting new. But I am looking for specifications of these Audio System Krypton 12. So farit realy hard to find them for me. Not sure if some wesbites that might have it get blocked or something. If I remember correctly they were also very similair to jlw 7 or something. My Krypton are originally car audio subs.

Anyways back then they were perfect for small sealed enclosure. Ofcourse there is 750/1000 watts behind each. ButI need to chnage the enclosure cause of differen furniture. So I realy would need specifications to use them and find good shape/size. Still sealed ofcourse.

Also I wonder what wool inside it would do. If it would help a bit to maybe increase the size virtually a bit. And what that would do.

If it hard to get the original specs. Maybe someone with lot of experience can help me out to do some guesses.

Those Krypton 12 drivers have an Fs of 37 Hz, so they are absolutely useless as sub drivers, and the lowest they will go will be above Fs, and in a sealed enclosure about 60 Hz without equalization.

Those Krypton 12 drivers have an Fs of 37 Hz, so they are absolutely useless as sub drivers, and the lowest they will go will be above Fs, and in a sealed enclosure about 60 Hz without equalization.

I can tell you they go lower than that. Like you said. Equalization. Then there is also room gain and response to tune. But they need juice. They have pretty ok Xmax.

It seems it does not matter much what I do with the size of the enclosure for what I wanted to change. I probably not even need change much on the sub tuning at all. Well that was kinda to be expected I guess.

I still wonder if should dampen the inside tho. Not sure if it matters that much. The enclosure they in now does not have that.

You can not Eq below Fs, you just get distortion and frequency doubling. Sealed woofer drivers need a low Fs, high mass and Vas on the high side.

Well all I know is my DSP and Audyssey do the trick for more than 10 years already. I not have a big room for audio/HT so this probably helps. And it more than enough for movies for what my neighbours like. And when listening music together with my dali lektor it is realy clear and clean sound in my opinion. Which I find little more important than rumbling my windows out in movies.

I tried this like 12 years ago now. Just cause I had these from my car. And I am still surprised everyday with the quality of sound for what I paid for it all back then.

Equalizing a sealed sub below it's FS requires power and math, after the driver itself. Unless you have a robust driver getting a sub to play into infrasonics doesn't work. I'm not familiar with you driver, but those responding have giving you some good advice, hopefully you can come to a realistic compromise.

Those drivers can be abused pretty fine. It are SPL/SQ car subs. I didn't try it out back then for no reason. I had these subs. I asked other audiophiles on other forum that no longer exists. They did the math back then. They did calculations. They told me with dsp and such you can flatten the curve nicely. They need some juice. And they should do pretty fine in smaller room. And ofcourse not comparable with a dedicated HT subwoofer of similair price range. But I had these already. So they did cost me nothing at that point. I just needed get sealed eclosure cause no way these can be in a decent size enclosure ported for HT.

And it proved to work fine. I reach enough in the low end in movies that you feel it without hearing.

A bit smaller than the size I had now. I needed see if that would not ruin things. But seems to not matter much. I will be able to put them fitting into my whole audio furniture then. Same height and such. Nice cover in front so you not see them and everything looks clean then with just my towers and center speaker visible. Being able to have 2 of these tiny boxes is pretty amazing. Each side one. will probably be even a bit better also than now for the sound quality.

Ego clouds what I wrote. You are one of the culprits hopping in with assumptions. Maybe you should jsut answered myt questions instead of pointing out how it wont work without knowing poop abot the the room. About the tuning. About the speaker at all. You just have parameters and thats your whole opinion.

And yes what you say is correct. It not a HT sub. It not gonna go as low cause of Fs. etc. yes all correct. But I was not asking for that.

Also this is very false. Sealed you can tune below Fs. Ofcourse not in the same SPL of the Fs rating. Or did you mean that? The distoration and frequency doubling that happens? Well I try reduce that frequency doubling trough DSP and room equalization no??? Distortion is not happning cause of the volume I have them on and the max volume before distortion happens cause my PA amp will clip before that. But again I was not asking for any speaker suggestions or whatevever. So you just telling me things that are maybe true in bigger room with less room gains.

And yes these subs might probably be poop in room that 3 times the size. Because subwoofer surface/excursion distance of subs not displacing enough air in comparison. And not getting any room gains i get now.

But if you think this is all incorrect feel free to correct. I got the help I needed already from some less judgy and more helpful members.

One way, if say the subs need to fit on either end of a sofa or other furniture, is to not build a square or rectangular box, but an irregular one perhaps, with an appendage that goes partly under, or behind the sofa to get the same internal volume that fits into otherwise wasted spaces?

They gonna be pretty close to corners. Audio in middle with big flat screen. Towers are on either side in almost perfect 5.1 set up. The subs next to these towers so the subs both gonna get room gain from the corner left and right. It day and night difference than when I had them more to the middle.

I had done some subwoofer crawl to find the most room gain. And together with new furniture I can make it happen now. With old furniture I did not have the space in both corners. And subwoofer in 1 corner was terrible for sound quality cause of the room gains. My guess is that one in each corner or close to corner wil fix this.
