I am seriously considering purchasing the Onkyo RZ50. Can be found NEW for $1300 and USED-LIKE NEW for sub $900. It’s got great reviews. Should I be looking elsewhere for a better AVR for the same price? If so, where? Thank you in advance!

I'd use the comparison tool zkelectronics.com has to see basic differences. Depends what you want, which you give no clue for.

Main competitor would be Denon X3800...

If you don't need all the channels - eg: if 5.1.4 is sufficient - then you could look at the NR7100, RZ30, Integra DRX3.4 (and Pioneer equivalents)

The only caution is to check what your speakers are like, if the speakers are hard to drive, (if their minimal impedance drops below 4ohm.... regardless of what their nominal impedance is) - then you may need an external amp to drive those speakers - in my case I use an external amp for front L/C/R, and use the AVR internal amps for surrounds and heights.

Another consideration would be if you want to in the future have Dirac ART - then you should limit your search to those devices that support DLBC (as Dirac stated that if a device supports DLBC it has the hardware ability to support ART, assuming the manufacturer enables it)

Right now it is likely that the RZ50, RZ30 will get ART (but not guaranteed)
The Denon X3800, has been confirmed as getting ART
The Integra DRX8.4 was informally confirmed as receiving ART eventually...

I'm very happy with my Integra DRX 3.4

That is a 2021 model and may get updated just like the NR7100 did -> RZ30.

Notice RZ50 does not have independent subwoofer pre-outs where as RZ30 has. I would lean toward X3800H/RZ30 as you have dual subs.

I thought you were happy with your Yamaha RX-V6A and had boxed up your Onkyo TX-NR7100. Is that no longer the case?

Yes that is the case. However, I’m clearly never satisfied and I’m always looking for the next uncommon value. The Onkyo RZ50 might just be that value. At an OPEN BOX NEW price of $900 it appears to be a steal.

The RZ50 has a few additional features, pre outs and a bit more power and processing over the 7100. But, whatever you did not like about the 7100 you may still not like about the RZ50.

If your NR7100 handled your speakers well, then the RZ50 will be fine too - their weakness is in the amp, and specifically with regards to speakers providing difficult / low impedance loads.

The RZ50 brings a full set of pre-outs to the party (as well as an additional channel) - which allows you to run external amps, if your main speakers are too difficult .... this is how I run my setup, with external power driving L/C/R, but the internal amps running the rest of the 5.1.4 setup.
