upgrade center channel or go dual subs

Would appreciate your feedback - should i upgrade centre channel or add another sub woofer - my current set up is as follows:

Receiver:
Sony ANR 1000

Speakers set up: 5.1.2
L&R: Paradigm monitor 6000f
Centre: Paradigm 2000C
Surrounds: Paradigm ceiling angled
Atmos: Paradigm
Subwoofer: SVS PB-1000 Pro
Use: 80/20 Home theatre / Music

Do you feel like the center channel is underperforming or do you feel like the sub is underperforming? Looks like your front three are well matched with each other so likely you will benefit most from an additional sub. Then save and upgrade your front three speakers all at once to another matched set.

Couple things to consider. How do you find dialogue currently? Is it easy to understand or does it lack clarity? Does the sound quality degrade off axis (when not in front of the centre speaker)? Those would be reasons to upgrade. I had a Paradigm Studio CC which is also a two way centre and when I upgraded to the Studio CC-590 there was a big improvement moving to a 3-way.

How even is the bass response throughout the room? Are there dead spots where bass is lacking or spots where the bass is boomy? Adding a second sub can help smooth the response throughout the room, but you need the ability to try them in different locations. Also depends on how big the room is. If it's a mid-size to larger space, then many members advocate dual subs.

The Monitors are a good entry level speaker but if you find the fronts lacking in any way, an upgrade to the Premiers would be an improvement. Maybe get the extra sub for now and as TankTop5 suggested save up for replacing the front 3 down the road.

Upgrade the center to a 3 way design (ideally with matching front mains) would be my vote. Dual subs are great too.

Thanks for the feedback. Leaning more towards going dual subs now! Getting a good deal on used svs pb 1000 (not pro, 10" driver) or a svs pb 2000. Do u reckon this would match up with my existing set up? And if yes then should I go for pb 1000 or pb 2000?....thanks for helping a newbie!

I “think” your receiver has two subwoofer outputs but an internal Y splitter so they both receive the same signal. This would make integrating two different subwoofer’s difficult but not impossible. I would personally recommend having a little patience until you can find a matching second subwoofer.

The Sony ANR 1000 has two Sub outputs, but unfortunately it has an internal splitter, so they receive the same signal. Also the Sony has no Sub correction in it's D.C.A.C. IX Auto Calibration - just loudness and time delay. So it could be a little more effort will be needed than just plugging in another Sub.

The pb2000 is a closer match to the pb1k pro than the older 10” version and imo would match better. Personally I wouldn’t buy the old one. I would buy a matching pro model. Or sell the pb1k(or trade it in), and get a pb2k pro, and then a second later. OR leave svs altogether.

Thanks all...will wait and stretch the budget to get the matching svs pb1000 pro instead then. As such my listening space is an open plan living layout with openings to kitchen and a walkway with large windows...the feedback makes sense though to match the subs...thanks all!

I own two of those subs with my Canton 9k reference stand mounted speakers. I started with one SVS sub which added the needed lower frequencies, some time later after reading about the benifits of two I got a second sub for my12x16 room They are dialed in at their lowest setting to fit seeemesly with my Cantons any thing above that setting and the base overpowers the cantons and the room.It looks better however, lol .My recommendation buy just one, buy a second one if not satisfied. The second sub will be a positive addition but not a Wow difference, not in my room oh I'm not an anal Audio guy so I did not get excited over the addition, just yea I hear some positive improvement here and there and in total the speaker system sounds great.
PS If I turn up the subs to their max I can't hear the other speakers and my house starts to move off it's foundation.If I had to do it over I would as I have the disposable income to otherwise not sure it is wort it in the short run cost benifit wise. Yea I know I speak blasphemy.your speakers and room are different then mine soooo there that.

The benefit of multiple subs is largely smoothing response within the room, it does not increase extension particularly, but would add 2-6 dB spl depending on placement/room. Setting subs by ear isn't a particularly good way to go....sounds like that's how you did it at leasst. Did you match levels of sub and mains at all? What crossover did you use?
