Any iPod experts Here?

As someone who is not really portable music savvy, why would I store music when a streaming service seems like an endless version of the same thing, minus the storing part? I have slowly and stubbornly gotten into streaming, but for some reason it has held me back from wanting to store music other than vinyl or CD and some FLAC files on my PC, and even then, I haven't added anything to them in ages. Just curious. I just plug my phone directly into my active LSR305s at work and let spotify or Pandora run the show.

In spite of what quibbles can be made with reference to SQ differences, I have since forgotten to notice the difference. In my bedroom it's just Spotify on WiFi to the WiiM amp and even that sounds surprisingly good. I would otherwise have to keep an enormous playlist to keep from looping the same catalog all of the time. I used to collect music when there was no connected database of it available and the radio stations being so limited with their selections.

Yet you can store on many devices even with streaming subscriptions.....and even use those same services to incorporate your own content for selections.

I just don't really know the difference. I can pick entire albums or artist catalogs from streaming. I have stored music but rarely use it anymore. It seems like streaming services are the same as having stored music without having to actually store it? The things I listen to from my PC, ends up shared with my phone automatically. I started to buy a separate music device (Fiio?) but it seemed redundant or I got carried away by streaming and that idea went by the wayside.

Streaming is very convenient. I rarely rip my CDs anymore. I use Apple Music service exclusively after trying various services. My rips, downloads and streamed albums sit together in my library and are available to me using any Apple device to which I am signed in.

Data usage will be an issue for many. I have unlimited data on my phone. My car’s wifi is also unlimited and I use Apple Car Play. I can tap a button on the steering wheel to bring up Siri and request play of any song or album available on Apple Music. “Hey Siri, play The Monkey’s Uncle by Annette Funicello on Apple Music.”

The iPod Touch Gen 6 supports Apple Music. Music from the service can be downloaded to the device and available for playback when an internet connection is not available for use. But, with very limited storage, downloads will be very limited as well. Apple Music service can be sampled for free quite easily.

I meant to store music based on old habits, or leftover from notions when streaming was limited. Anymore, it just seems like I have an infinite library at my fingertips whether it be PC or phone so I just never got around to having a stored collections of my favorites. That and many of my favorites were that because I didn't have access to so much different music as there is now. My favorites were basically rated as such because I was living in what amounted to a top 100 loop of repetitive FM radio selections.

The radio is still playing those classics too much today. Now I prefer discovery mode because it's so much more random. I gain favorites every day now, for the most part, across a few genres. If I were to start collecting/storing all of those I find now, I would be too busy at it. This has all just happened as it will. It has simply made it to where I don't need to carry stored music or play lists. When the internet goes down, I have CDs and vinyl and I can do without for awhile.

I was still carrying CDs in my truck up until about a year ago and I just stopped at some point without actually meaning to.
