I have had some issues when playing new 4K UHD Blu Ray disks in my OPPO UDP-203.

I had been using a old Samsung BD player with a Samsung Q6 TV. I recently replaced the Q6 with an LG C4 and replaced the Samsung BD player with a UDP-203 (the OPPO had been in a different system with a Q80 TV, but I rarely used it so I decided to swap the BD players between the 2 systems when I got the C4).

Most 4K disks play fine in the OPPO/C4 (better than fine, actually more like sublime). However, some 4K disks generate an image that is almost completely bright blue blocks. For example, in the opening scene of Bladerunner (Final Cut) it is barely possible to make out the outlines of the buildings or anything else. The text in the opening credits is also highly distorted with streaks of green. I had a similar issue with one of the Star Trek 4K triliogy disks I bought recently, but one of the other 4K disks from the triliogy was fine (I can't remember offhand which was okay and which wasn't).

The Bladerunner disk played fine in the old Samsung BD/Q6 combo. Thus, I suspect the UDP-203 is having problems with the format of some of the newer 4K disks, but I can't rule out a compatibility issue with C4/OPPO combination. The firmware on the OPPO has not been updated in years, so I'm going to try updating the firmware. It looks like the last firmware update was in 2019 so I might be SOL if that's the problem.

I'll probably try connecting the old Samy BD player to the C4 to see if that works.

Any other ideas/suggestions?

I had the same problem with my system. I have an LG OLED TV. But at the same time I had just introduced my Marantz 7705. My eldest son who is a digital wizard and can analyse software as he is a senior software engineer, confirmed the problem was with the OPPO. Their software was not to spec, and so I ditched the OPPO. I now have the Panasonic player and the Sony universal player. I always felt those Oppo players were way overrated. I am not surprised they went out of business. I would ditch the OPPO and get the Sony universal player. I was an early adopter and there was the odd bug, especially shutting down without warning and for no obvious reason. Much to my surprise Sony fixed it with software updates. It has no been fine for years and I am very happy with it. I think the Sony is the better player than the Panasonic. Panasonic have closed their authorized service centers. They apparently want to get back into the TV business. If they do they had better open some service centers. Only an MBA could think of a reason to close service centers.

Here we go again more unfounded statements from the all knowing.

Oppo have not gone out of business there simply consecrating on the Mobil phone side of the business. Which has a massive following in the Asian market As for Oppo CD / DVD players. Software updates and help are still available. If you bother to take the time to look for them.

There is still a huge market for used models. New in a sealed box models, are bringing triple the listed new price, While this may not apply to the very small American market. Listings on European and Asian markets don't last long

I stand by every word I said. There were no updates available here in the US as far as I know. I think their quality was exaggerated and has been hyped by a degree of audiophoolery, which you seem enamored with. In this day and age, a disc player needs a reliable disc transport and reader, and then able to send a digital stream for decoding. The latter does not have to be perfect because of error correction. And before you complain error correction isn't perfect, it is to the point the signal is lost and drops out. Again I know there is an hallucinating fraternity that don't believe that, but that is the truth. The age old adage never dies: - "Fools are easily parted from their money!"
