There is also this one..
Although, I don't think folks round here care for Emo amps that much.

BasX A3 Three-Channel Power Amplifier.

I realized these amps are way under $1000, maybe someone else has other options around 1k

Yeah, it has a bonus 4th channel (it's built with a couple two-channel nc252 boards; no issues using only 3 channels). 150w, 250w @ 8, 4 ohms.

Prices have gone up, but if one is in the US or CA, can't beat the buckeyeamp that ski2xblack link. I have been using one for a couple of years now, it is transparent and quiet even just using RCA to XLR cables. My only cautionary note on those NC502MP (better value than the NC252 imo) is, if you push it hard you might want to use an external fan (depend on the contents and one's listening habit), but that's $25 solution for a near silent one. If in Europe, there are a couple of better choices.

Are you using an AVR or AVP? How many speakers?

If AVR, since you’re on a budget, just use the AVR by itself. Nothing wrong with that.

OP did not mention which speakers he had to drive. Some have weird impedance and phase angle curves that most currently built AVRs can't handle.

He’s on a tight budget for an amp. So since we’re guessing, I doubt the speakers are one of those expensive exotic types that go down to 1-ohm with weird phase angles.
