Technics SL-B2 Turntable Worth Saving?

Cleaned out the outdoor storage closet and came across this TT stored in two plastic bags. The belt was rotted away so I bought a new one. Plugged it in, nothing happened when I pressed the start/stop button. turned the platter by hand and it did spin a few seconds and the strobe light came on but then stopped.
I'm not an electrician so don't know what could be wrong. Think it's an early 1980's model.

They were produced in 1979 and 1980. It is a good turntable and they fetch good money on eBay. I think it would be easily repaired. Although the motor is servo controlled the circuit is very simple and would be easily serviced if that were the problem. I suspect the problem is either dirty switching contacts or a problem on the servo board. It should not be thrown away. So you could have it fixed, or sell it for repair in eBay. I would think anyone with experience serving electronics could get that up and running. My guess is a either dirty contacts or bad caps in the servo board. Unlike todays equipment I think that would be a straightforward service. Don't you just long for the days when service manuals were published and you could actually repair a board without being reincarnated as a robot?

I remember those. They were nice tables. Get an estimate from a good electronics technician.

My wife still makes me keep hers, even though we haven't spun an album on it in 25 years or so. Of course I'm not without shame as I couldn't bear to toss out my Technics SL-1700Mk2 Turntable either.

Yes, get it serviced or sell as requiring service. SL series are usually in demand.
