I wasn't knocking anything other then ventilation, regardless of listening levels and won't go any further as it was only meant to be informed for other users too. Hopefully you will find another unit as a suitable replacement.

I will be an octogenarian in a few months. Honestly I don't feel that old. I still do a lot of manual labor around our farm. I've had more than my share of medical issues but they are in the past and don't seem to have any lasting effect on me.

Yes the tight space in the cabinet is the problem. It limits my choices quite a bit. I will remove the feet from from the unit to give it a little breathing room, something I didn't do with the old Pioneer.

Can you have a fan in the back to either pull or air into that space or push it out to the front?

I don't know. It hasn't arrived yet. I expect it Monday. If so I'll just reduce the size of the feet. This is a budget model. While it has more than I need or use, it certainly is not loaded with the features of higher end products. I looked for an integrated stereo AMP with HDMI in and out but couldn't find anything in the price range. This unit will be OK, I think. If things heat up there is plenty of room in the cabinet to put a fan next to the AVR. I'm confident it won't be necessary and I don't really like fans in home audio gear.

Shorter feet would probably still allow air circulation. Sounds like a very small space for your avr, tho. I think the closest to a 2ch with hdmi to your budget was maybe the Onkyo 8270?

Yes it is twice the price and doesn't do anything I need that the Yamaha AVR can't do. It is a couple of db more powerful and happier with low impedance loads. Probably a nice unit. So it may be the ticket for someone but but I wouldn't use anywhere near its capabilities. My Epos speakers in the bedroom system are not a complicated load and I don't play loudly there. If I want to shake the room, I'll go downstairs to the home theater.

l could but I don't think it is necessary. I can't imagine that the Yamaha would run any hotter than the Pioneer unit it will replace.

OK. I wish I had another place to put the receiver. We have a cabinet near the foot of the bed with a 55" screen on top of it that covers the top completely. It is scheduled to arrive today so I'll know more when I can unbox it.

There are several components in a AVR, apart from amps, that gets hot. An USB powered fan connected to the TV could be useful.

I wall hung my bedroom tv to free up space on my rack at the foot of the bed, helped create more space for my center speaker, bluray and avr.
