Marantz AV-10

Looking at buying the Marantz AV-10 but, had a question and wondering if someone could assist. I have a MiniDSP I just bought while my Denon X6700H is in the shop and I have 4 Klipsch 12" subwoofers in my home theater. I'm running a 9.4.4 setup. My question is; if I get the AV-10 with 4 independent subwoofer outs, do I need the MiniDSP? Or, should I send it back? My second option based on price is the Marantz 8805A and keep the MiniDSP. Any suggestions would be helpful, Thank you in advance.

In my opinion, send back the MiniDSP, and invest in a Dirac DLBC licence - then integrate the whole lot internally within the AV10 using DLBC.

I'd pass on the minidsp (2x4HD?) with the four independent sub capability if you change away from the 6700 (and why did it need repair?)....but might spend the minidsp money on the MultEQ-X app for tweakability....do you already have a full suite of amps for the pre-pro?

There are many different minidsp products, which one did you buy?

Yeah, amps were already being used. The right surround preout was bad on the 6700.

PS, I was using the MutiEQ-X software. I still haven't perfected it yet.

...or you can spend time and actually compare/measure differences using each type of setup (even if on the same 4sub capable avr using the minidsp instead)

I can see getting the previous year model to save money if a manufacturer releases a new one every year. But the 8805 came out in 2018 and they just updated only a few things in the 8805A.

So I would favor getting the newest model.

MiniDSP 2x4 HD

If it is that one, definitely return it. I have one that I used for a few weeks and got quite good in using it with REW but concluded that using Audyssey XT32 Sub EQ can do a better job quicker. So it had been back in the box and a few years and then I used it in one of my stereo setup just to set crossover, after I got rid of the Marantz AV8801 and use an ext. dac directly with a power amp.

I have no idea why so many people opted for the 2X4HD when they already have the likes of Audyssey, YPAO, ARCG and even Dirac Live. Some firmly believe they need one because they have 4 subs, that's really misguided IMO, though in that case there is some merit to me, but only in limited sense and could do worse too for those who don't know enough. It's probably hearsay, and/or groupthink that got the 2X4HD so popular, not that it is not useful, it actually is, but to use it under the conditions I mentioned, it is a waste of time and money, for negligible improvements if any and only if used wisely. That's of course just my opinion, but is largely based on facts and figures too.

Will do. Getting ready to do some calibrations now with Audyssey just to get the distances and then start learning and playing with the MiniDSP and REW to time align my subs.

FWIW might not think of them as distances, but just a form of time/delay...

It is a myth (sort of, in most cases), you can't time align your subs better than Sub EQ HT/Audyssey can, if you have only two subs.
