They can also be recalled as they did with Chesa Boudin in CA.
Fair enough. But also illegally removed like DeSantis in FL.

You bitched at Trell for making it political but ok for you because it is your thread?

I said I didn't want to make this a 2A thread and Trell didn't listen. I had specificity in my request.

It smacks of hypocrisy when in your virtue signaling you take a 'Dismantle it all' approach when you could be much more reasonable instead of afraid of offending the crowd you run with.

If the people you align will burn you for having a reasonable, nuanced, approach to policing reform... Time to find better friends.

It seems the nice lady reporting the high-jacking, wasn't shot by the cops when they arrived.

Your country's gun crazy and no-one;s doing anything about it

I've already asked once, and now telling any and all if you want a 2a thread there are others or start your own.

The fact that you call for the dismantling of the very organization that you made your first call to is hypocrisy.
I don't know what other way you could frame it.

Maybe she'll appreciate the institution she previously threw under the bus. Her stance and the removal of funds from police disproportionately harm people in the lower socio-economic classes. I.E. most of my immediate and extended family.

Off topic?

And most DA's are voted in which is very different.
not off topic, we're talking 'law enforcement'. As for voting in, I understand, the half I would like to get rid of are the idiots the 'Dems' voted in ! ;)

Can we get to a reasonable position on the fact that we ask to much of police and the solutions tried so far have been disastrous, especially for people without means?
Minneapolis Police Abolitionist Shivanthi Sathanandan Carjacked by 4 'Very Young Men' with guns
While I have sympathy for innocent victims of crime - including this person - this is a remarkable self-own. I'd have more respect for her if she stood by her vow to dismantle the MPD.

Additionally I understand getting jacked, and smacked on the head, can be momentarily debilitating but you can only describe them as 'Young' and 'Men'. I'm going to hazard a guess that if they were white it would have featured predominately.
I can only assume she would have given more detailed descriptions to the police.

I fargoing warned you not to turn this into a 2A debate. This is my thread. You're gone.
I had no idea that we could block forum members from posting in threads we start. Interesting.

She makes other points which I wholeheartedly agree with. She and her kids have been traumatized and it's a shame. The issue with defunding is you reduce police presence. Other issues of over policing, stop and frisk, false pretense stops are all issues I'm in agreement with addressing via policy and training.

There should be a button, top right, next to unwatch. Let me know if you don't see it on threads you create. I know its a feature other forums use for allowing the OP to manage their threads.

Seriously, I have no life.
Not going to turn this into a 2A thread
Even if it did turn into a 2A thread, the root problem is bad behavior. That is rarely mentioned when people start talking about solutions.

They could just have as easily enacted this crime with their Mom's steak knife set.

I only see a "watch" button at the top right of my threads.

As long as we want people to obey laws, we will need someone to enforce them. That means police, in some form. Certainly, there are jobs police do that other agencies should be handling, such as mental health checks. If a reduction in police numbers and funding is a goal, those other agencies must be created/enhanced to compensate.

Over policing is disproportionately applied to the least fortunate members of society. Meanwhile, so much white collar crime - some of which has devastating consequences for victims - often goes lightly- or un- punished.

Don't call for a FULL dismantling of the police and then call them when you maybe, just maybe, suffered the consequences of your own vote.

She called for a full dismantling, and you are correct she is not everyone.

Remember she's an 'ally' and I'll bet you a dollar that her assailants weren't white which is why she didn't didn't mention race. My take is she's still too blinkered to overcome her own image of adjacency to the downtrodden.

I'm fine with something new also. What you don't get rid of before you have other structures in place is the old structure.
FWIW, this is a link to the full FB post in question. Reading further into the bits from Jeremiah Ellison and Phillipe Cunningham give a little more nuance, and provide some context. Still, Ms. Sathanandan’s statement doesn’t appear to be well thought out from a marketing perspective. It might appeal to the basest, angriest constituency, but it’s too easy to misconstrue for just about anyone else.
