Minnesota Democratic leader that called for full PD dismantling, calls the cops.

Can we get to a reasonable position on the fact that we ask to much of police and the solutions tried so far have been disastrous, especially for people without means?

Minneapolis Police Abolitionist Shivanthi Sathanandan Carjacked by 4 'Very Young Men' with guns

Additionally I understand getting jacked, and smacked on the head, can be momentarily debilitating but you can only describe them as 'Young' and 'Men'. I'm going to hazard a guess that if they were white it would have featured predominately.

She and her children were not armed, obviously. What USA needs is more guns.

“Yesterday my children and I were violently car jacked in the driveway of our home in Minneapolis. Four very young men, all carrying guns, beat me violently down to the ground in front of our kids. The young men held our neighbors up at gunpoint when they ran over and tried to help me. All in broad daylight,”

Not sure where you're going with this?

First, I struggle with anyone who takes wanting to hold the Police to a high standard as meaning they are against the police. Holding people accountable for their actions is the right thing to do.

Secondly, I don't recall anyone wanting to get rid of the police. My only recollection is of people wanting to restructure how our current law enforcement looks. I'm fine with trying something new. We live in a big social experiment and there's no perfect answer. My business life has been constant change and constant restructuring. IOW, it's always been dynamic. There are glitches that need to be resolved with change. The problem I see in public matters is it gets written in stone and it becomes near impossible to fix the glitches.

Don't call for a FULL dismantling of the police and then call them when you maybe, just maybe, suffered the consequences of your own vote.

She called for a full dismantling, and you are correct she is not everyone.

Remember she's an 'ally' and I'll bet you a dollar that her assailants weren't white which is why she didn't didn't mention race. My take is she's still too blinkered to overcome her own image of adjacency to the downtrodden.

I'm fine with something new also. What you don't get rid of before you have other structures in place is the old structure.

Not going to turn this into a 2A thread

I wonder what policies could be part of the emboldening process?

In the tweet you quoted she didn’t “call for a FULL dismantling of the police”. You could try reading your “evidence” before posting it.

I still don't see your point? Are you saying she can't call the police because she thinks we can build a better system? If I applied that logic to everything I think the government can do better, there wouldn't be many services I can use. My money is on you've used government systems and services that you think we could do better at.

I also think I am missing something in the FB clip. The part after See more? I don't see where she says let's dismantle and go without law enforcement until we build "a new infrastructure that works..."

I'm pretty sure she gave the police a description of the assailants. As did her neighbors. I'm perfectly fine with her saying "young men" publicly.

Furthermore, I wish I had a penny for every bold statement made my politicians to make a point.

Ok try this one on for size: DISMANTLE * THE * TOYOTA * CAMRY.

That doesn't scream taking the front seats out now exactly does it? You're either being coy, duplicitous, or stupid. Trying to figure out which it is.

Did you even read the quote by the mother held up at gun point? It’s in the article you linked to and what I quoted.
I read it all the way through. I'm pointing out the fact that she wanted, in all caps, you know the internet equivalent of shouting, to dismantle the mpd. Period, Full Stop, Ride Over, No Respawn...

It's like saying you need to get rid all all ropes colored red. But when you fall through the ice you call for a red rope.

Wow, you're reaching.

It's actually more like saying you don't like how your city has been maintaining roads and think they're mismanaged. Therefore, you can't call in a pothole to be repaired. Which is absolutely absurd.

Anyone here is free to start their own thread on the tangents generated in this thread. I don't want this thread derailed by something that simply isn't Germaine to what is being actually talked about:

They hypocrisy of saying that a system is so fundamentally broken/corrupt/systemically racist etc that is simply needs to be torn down (please don't make me post the dictionary definition of dismantle, you aren't children) but yet it's still the people she called.

Her options could have been call no one, call some friends, call a P.I., call her therapist...

She made other very good points that I'm in full agreement: A 'bring the heavy gavel down on them'. Something I'm only used to hearing from the 'racist conservatives'.

If she would have said we need to either rethink, reimagine, find better ways to support, and get X,Y,Z out of our law enforcement agencies I would be arm in arm with her.

It's not what she said however and you lying when you reword it the way that you have. Plus there is scant data that actually backs her claims that buttress her call to dismantle the department.

She said what she said dude. Polish the turd how ever you like.
