This would probably be a better post on Audiokarma, but Im so damn thrilled.
Scored these Large Advents today...

The cabinets are perfect for an easy refinish...zero scratches, corners are perfect.
Woofers have been refoamed...correctly with surrounds inverted.
Grills are pretty soiled...If I can't clean them, then new cloth.
And...they work perfectly.

Here's the best part...some of you probably know what these are going for on Craigslist and Ebay.
50 BUCKS !!!
I feel like one of those guys that finds a 66 Vette in some old womans barn for 200 dollars.

I heard many pairs of these and the Smaller Advents (which miraculously sounded the same) back in the 70's and 80's. Always wanted a pair, but just never did.
To this day, these things have a sound that many speakers strive for.

Modern speakers measure better for the most part, but there was always just something about these.
Now, if I could figure out what I'm going to actually do with them !

And those are the original Large Advents, not the "New" Large Advent that had a hyped up treble response.
Congrats.

Thank You Mr Murphy and all...

For comparison, this Ebay listing is typical of what some are asking for these speakers.
Notice the cabinets are scarred and the woofers need foamed....all in all, getting these Ebay OLA's functional with the purchase price and shipping plus a refoaming approaches 700 dollars !! And then the work to salvage those cabinets.

A big thanks to the honest non greedy-gent of an Audiophile that sold these to me. He just bought new Revel's and needed to get rid of old units fast.

Definitely the best price I've seen for those in ages! Especially for the condition they're in (hey even the fried eggs are looking good....assume function well too?).

They sounded good to me...I will probably open them up and check the tolerances of the crossovers components at some point, but that crossover is so simple swapping new parts in if needed will be a breeze.
Or...I might just say if it don't sound broke, dont fix it !

If not abused wouldn't surprise me that they're fine especially if they work fine. Mine did get abused and stored poorly when I had to do some moving around and leave them behind, by the time I caught up with them years later just thought well, time for new speakers. They had a good productive life, tho.

Nice! I had a pair of those from 1979 until 1981. Those look to be in really good condition.

Thanks....I got the grills looking acceptable (PurplePower is wondrous stuff), but I am going to re cloth them.

As far as the cabinets go, I'm just going to use a mild chemical treatment to strip out years of grime and then do maybe a half hour of very light sanding, and then a re-stain.

Be careful. Any kind of stain is going to produce a darker cast than the original. Do the bottom first.

Great score I’m glad you shared them here I don’t go on that vintage place … I prefer new speakers.
