I thought the Pee-wee Herman character was a riot. Can't believe it has been nearly forty years since my best friend and I went to see a double feature of "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" and "Teen Wolf" when we were kids. Paul Reubens and Micheal J. Fox were actually both in another silly favorite of mine, "Midnight Madness."

I first saw him on his HBO special around 81 or so....thought it was pure genius.
Much like Steve Martin's stand up gigs, what was seen by some as silly and childish had a deep undertone.

Used to watch the show with my kids on Sat. morning. We went to see Big Top in the theater too. I agree, his incident was not exactly good, but also over publicized. Hugh Grant gets busted with a hooker in public and Ruben's incident got more attention; go figure. They nailed it in one article I read: His ability to occupy both children and adult space simultaneously is something few can do. Rip Paul.

Didn't know till now. A great character actor and writer. Always liked him on talk shows in the 80s and 90s and of course his movies. Rest Reubens.

RIP Mr. Ruebens. I always enjoyed the adult humor in the playhouse and really liked your character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

A favorite scene from Pee Wee's Big Adventure was the Biker Bar scene where he danced to Tequila. That scene had the best Hollywood Bikers I can remember. Cassandra Peterson (Elvira Mistress of the Dark, but without a black wig) also briefly appeared in the bar, at 1:52 into the clip.

It still surprises me that my friends and I watched Pee-Wee's Playhouse.... in our 20's no less! Just goes to show the reach he had. Big Adventure still holds up pretty well, and yeah, when I hear the song Tequila it immediately reminds of that bar scene.

One of my favorite comedians. Have been missing him for a while now but now know why. The whole bust thing was such silly crap compared to what needs to obtain outrage in today's political climate (the very idea of cops busting an adult theater is pretty bizarre and indicative of a highly mis-directed police department). RIP.

From what I remember, it was pretty much the fault of a sleazy theatre employee.

Those theatres have been around since the early 70's and even earlier on a smaller scale.
Everyone knows what the patrons go in there to do.
This employee/usher/whatever thought he would get some fame and fortune for "busting" Paul after he recognized him....and the scummy police went along with it and took it to a whole new sleazy level.

Just disgusting, and cost Paul his career mostly.

More indicative of the ineffectiveness of the "morality police" .... about as effective as the grammar/spelling police on the internets.
