Looking to replace this amp that came with my rack system dated 1992. I’d like something equal to or exceeding the output of this amp. It’s also going to need the connections for the tuner, cd player, etc. The current amp also had power outlets for the components to plug in to.
I’ve been out of the stereo game for a while now until this amp started to go on the blink. None of the new items I see are like what I have now. I’d appreciate any help to obtain something that will fit in place of this unit and give the same type of performance.
Wow, that is 30 years old. They were produced from 1992 to 1994. It was a very early integrated two channel amplifier. It had the lowest quality video connection which was composite. So it was designed to have a connection for TV set top boxes and video recorders. So the video part is no longer useable as we are passed the analog video sunset, and well past it.
So there is absolutely nothing comparable to that unit now. So, the question is have you, or are you somehow still using it as an AV unit, or just as an audio unit?
The next question is: - do you want your new unit to have video as well as audio capability? In my view that is to be strongly encouraged.
Lastly, what units do you propose connecting to the unit? Turntable, tape deck BD/DVD/CD player, TV set top box, streaming devices, computers and TV? Those and more are options. I included units with older technology, as I suspect it is likely you have legacy units.
I would strongly encourage an AV unit with bass management. Integrated audio only amps, now tend to be costly and not very useful, due to poor demand.
I would strongly recommend a unit with in and out HDMI connectivity. This is now really an enforced option.
So you have a lot of decisions to make. I would make a recommendation you treat yourself and go for a completely new system. Those Onkyo speakers will be poor performers, as speakers of that ilk, were and still are.
