Hello all,
I’m looking to upgrade my two channel stereo system. I currently have two audio source, Amp one amplifiers, and audio source, one A preamp.
For speakers, I have Martin Logan motions 40i
I would like to start my upgrades with the preamp and amps first trying to stay within a budget under $8000. Speaker budget is $4000

Thank you in advance for your advice.

You'll get better bang for your upgrade bucks if you switch that budget around, allocating more for the speakers than the pre and amp. Your current amp probably doesn't even need to be replaced, unless you get really insensitive speakers and/or desire live rock concert volumes.

$8K is a nice budget for both AVR + 2 Towers. Like under $2K for an AVR and under $6K for a pair of towers.

Definitely flip the budget around. Within that price range, you could get a variety of excellent tower speakers:

- Focal Kanta No 2 (https://www.focal.com/us/high-fidelity-speakers/kanta/kanta-ndeg2)
- KEF R11 Meta (https://us.kef.com/products/r11-meta)
- B&W 703 S3 (https://www.bowerswilkins.com/en/product/loudspeakers/703-s3)

...and many others. Plus these speakers will last a lifetime.

As for source + amp, if I were you, I would just go for a Yamaha AS-1200 Integrated for $3000.

Seriously, I have no life.

This is one case where I think our usual advice does not apply. His speakers are actually decent. Those Audio source amps are very low end. I have had them brought to me not working and my opinion of them is definitely well in the junk category. So in this case I would advise changing the electronics.

After following this advice without even knowing it and later being reaffirmed that it was a wise choice to allocate funds this way by prioritizing the speakers. I’m glad I did
I am totally unfamiliar with your electronics so no clue there

I will tell you this, listen listen listen with your own ears as hard is that is to do. I attended the Axpona show a few months ago. Good speakers are good speakers and every display room I went to had good sounding stuff. But your ears will like something unique to your listening. I was fortunate to have a friend with similar listening goals to me. He bought, I loved them and copied.what he did and bought mine on the used market because I knew what it would sound exactly like. Focal, bowers and Wilkins are great but I loved the base of legacy audio. In your price range you will have more options with new from other brands. Buying off a recommendation from me is pointless imo because you may like something totally different. Best of luck, when you hear them you will know
