Pioneer PD-T310 auto plays when connected to power source

I have a Pioneer PD-T310 Twin tray CD player from 1992. Problem is, as soon as I plug it into a power source, it automatically plays whatever CD is in the tray. If there is a power outage, and power comes back on, it starts playing automatically. I don't want this. Anyone know if this can be turned off?

Could be a setting for auto play, what does your manual say about it?

Hard to find an owners manual; mostly service manuals on-line. I did find some good photographs of a unit on CanuckAudioMart. I don't see a setting for auto-play but the power button is labeled Power and Standby/On. If it is a momentary switch then not much you can do, but if it is a single pole switch that clicks on and off, maybe the unit is on StandBy and should be off?

Same, I found a service manual which I will look through, but I can't find an owner's manual either (not as a free download anyway). Doesn't look like the service manual is gonna be much help.

I have 2 of these CD players and they both do the same thing, so I know it's a programming issue or it's just built that way.

The unit can be completely off. But if it's plugged in, and there's a power outage, and power returns, it will turn on and start playing whatever CD is in the tray.

Programming issue/built that way seems to be the story. If there is nothing in the operational setup to address it, doubt it's there. You have power outages while playing cd so often this is a problem? Maybe get a UPS so you can easily take the cd out of the player until power comes on....or unplug the gear from power until power comes back....

Yeah it's not a major issue but more of an inconvenience. Seems like it should be a pretty basic feature to turn off but I guess they're built this way. I just can't keep a CD in the tray if I'm away. Otherwise the thing might start playing, and it plays on repeat forever until turned off.

I can turn that "feature" off in my players and do, don't like auto start myself.....your description somewhat reminds me of the way Ross in "Spun" did the cd to entertain Nikki

I can understand the auto-start feature but auto-start and repeat seems a very odd default. I looked through the service manual as well and while there is a lot of information on calibrating the electronics and I couldn't find any mention of an auto-start option. Keeping the tray empty seems the best option.

You could remove the CD when you are finished listening.
