I'd generally not consider Definitive Technology for subs, and their speakers with built in powered woofers I wouldn't call subs at all (the D15/D17 at least got away from that powered woofer stuff, but the passive radiators they use aren't subs either). However, their
D10 and D8 sound possibly more interesting than the generation or two of subs from DT before that. I'd add Hsu, RSL, Rythmik, Monolith, to the subs to look at. Subs have come a long way since the Carver Sunfires (and the current Sunfire is not a Carver enterprise any more).
