Onkyo RZ50 - Netflix Atmos issues

Hi all,

Not sure if I am posting in the correct space, so if not please feel free to re-direct.

I have just received my RZ50 a couple of days ago as an upgrade to my Onkyo 656. The issue I have is that the RZ50 does not process Netflix Atmos to Atmos, but to Dolby Audio Surr. My source is an Xbox Series X, set for passthrough. My TV is a Samsung UHD BU8000 with eARC enabled, using HDMI ultra high speed cables. When I swop out to my old Onkyo 656, the input is "Atmos", and when I check using "i" it shows input correctly as being "Atmos". When I play an Atmos Netflix content movie, it shows correctly as being "Atmos".

However, when I swop to the RZ50 (using same Xbox and TV setup), all I get is input shown as Dolby Audio Surr - not getting Atmos I have tried everything. The only solution so far that works is a work around by using the Samsung TV as the input, and through the ARC I can get Atmos from my TV as the source. The preference is to get Atmos for Netflix direct through my Xbox - which it does for the 656, but I can't get it to work on the RZ50. I am setup for 5.1.4. When running the native Xbox Dolby Access app, it works perfectly with the demo content. Games work fine. Playing an Atmos disk via the Xbox works fine. Neflix however doesn't - limited to Dolby Audio Surr on the RZ50.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Please help, thanks.

The only thing I see mentioned in the User Manual that may help is on page 173:

-- begin quote --
If the audio in Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD Master Audio format cannot be output correctly in the source format, set "BD video supplementary sound" (or reencode, secondary sound, video additional audio, etc.) to "Off" in the setting of a connected Blu-ray Disc player, etc. After changing the setting, switch the listening mode to that for each source, and confirm.
-- end quote --

Thanks - I will have another look at the Xbox X settings. However, the 656 is working fine on the same current settings, but the RZ50 is not.

If you press the surround mode button on the remote, does Atmos show as one of the options? Odd that it decodes automatically on one receiver and not the other. Almost seems like it must be a receiver setting.

If I press the surround mode button, at best I can get is Dolby Audio Surr even the Netflix content is Atmos. Interesting, as on the Onkyo 656 there is no issue. Pressing "i" indicates as the available content only being Dolby Audio Surr. As stated, I use Xbox X as the source, but have kept the setting on the Xbox and TV unchanged. Another interesting thing in general is that on the Xbox when you press the main home icon button, it will show when "passthrough" is working. It works for everything except for Netflix. Yes despite that the 656 works correctly and the sound is Atmos, yet not on the RZ50.
