Sharing a solution for a quirk on the Yamaha RX-A8A jumping scenes/ switching inputs randomly

I was dumbfounded when my Yamaha RX-A8A Aventage AVR started jumping scenes for no apparent reason. I would setup to go to Apple TV and after momentarily choosing that input the AVR would jump for no apparent reason to either TV or DishTV. First I blamed my Harmony Ultimate remote but no amount of tweaking the programming fixed it. Finally I read in a forum somewhere that enabling the HDMI Control may cause similar issues. So, I went into settings for the AVR and disabled HDMI Control and the problem was gone. There should be a warning about this in the manual! Anyway, I just wanted to share this morsel of knowledge with you guys. I just love the sound and video quality of the Yamaha RX-A8A, but it does have some quirks! Happy New Year 2023!

Yeah hdmi control can be wanky. What's a "scene", tho?

From what I read, a Yamaha "scene" is a collection of settings that you can assign to an input.

Great to know about HDMI control. I wasn't planning on using it, so will keep it off no matter what AVR I get next.

Speaking Yamaha is a bit different than what I'm used to :)

I never use HDMI Control or those eARC stuff. I like things basic.

You should call Yamaha and tell them about this oversight if it is as it might be hidden someplace unexpected.
