Amps for Denon AVR6500h

I have a Denon and am lookin to perhaps gets some decent amps (if this receiver needs them) for the speakers... I'm running a Denon AVR6500H and Def Tech Speakers... center is Pro Center 2000 the main speakers are all pro monitor 1000 and the ceiling speakers are pro monitor 800s and 2 pro sub 1000 and 1 pro sub 800... any help would be greatly appreciated...... I'm not lookin to break the bank but willing to spend within reason ...

That avr has a reasonably good amp section. What distance are you from speakers and how loud do you want to listen at? Might try using this http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html to get an idea of amp needs in your situation.

Personally I'd start with subs, get some real ones rather than those DefTec bass modules (they're not true subs).

Take the advice of the folks on this forum. I was in a similar boat that you are. Had a X4300H and was looking for more power. I bought an amp and the change in sound was minor at best. Go get some real subs, as advised here.

I’m a fan of rythmik and would suggest two FVX-15s. Some other good deals are the HSU VTF-3 MK5s or the monolith 15 v2s.

I'd think if typical ceiling height and especially if a closed room, a pair of 10" or 12" subs would do fine. Altho if ya can fit 15"s...but might be a shock from the size of your DTs. Generally I'd look to ported subs, too. Sealed subs can be handy when smaller form factor is involved but will lose a bit of low end response efficiency.

There's nothing I don't like.... still learning about this kind of stuff... assumed it would help the receiver

It could help take some of the load off the avr, or give you additional capabilities the onboard amps can't provide. May not make any difference. Depends on how you use it....

I always suggest just using the avr and then only getting an amp if you need one....or can't resist buying one . If I were shopping I might get more Crown XLS amps or I might look at the newer Hypex or Purifi module amps, maybe from Buckeye. I'd want one fairly powerful, probanbly at least 250-300 wpc range (8 ohm).

I suggest speakers and subs that don’t have built-in amps because then you can use whatever amps you want.
