Hi all, I have a 90w reciever powering 4 speakers. Speakers are fine, but I want some more bass. I bought a 300w earthquake sub8 passive sub and a 200 watt sub amp to power the sub. The sub still isn’t putting much bass out. Should I upgrade my reciever? Or upgrade my sub amp? Or both? Thanks in advance!

Power is not a good way to measure the way a Sub works.
What is important is what the tuned frequency of the system is. If that Sub is in a small sealed box and rolling off around 50Hz... there is nothing you can do to make it output lower bass extension without first knowing more about the capabilities of the Driver.

Certain Drivers can be put in small enclosures and with the Use of DSP, pushed to surprising effect.

I didn't see anything on a quick search that matched Sub8.

Post a link to what you have and perhaps we can offer some advice.

So I have a Pyle Pfa540bt with a sub out. From the sub out it goes to a Fosi Audio TP-02 TDA7498E Subwoofer Amplifier 220 watt. Then put to the earthquake sub8. I am not super familiar with audio equipment, so I kinda went at it on my own, thanks for the help.

I get errors at Pyle's site trying to look that up. So you are using the driver I linked without a box? or what are the specifics of the box?

The sub out has it's own volume control on the "AV" unit and on your subwoofer amp, have you adjusted the sub volume on the Pyle? Also this is a really poor design if the sub has it's own volume.

Yes, the sub volume on the Pyle and the mini sub amp are all the way up

I haven’t mounted it in the curling/wall yet, but if I put it in an enclosure/box, would that help me get some more out of it?

Well the thing is, if it’s the same one as HD found, I also found it to be an in wall subwoofer without an enclosure, and VERY small to boot. An 8” “subwoofer” would struggle in all but the smallest rooms. Room size and enclosure specs would be helpful to give advice. What are the other speakers?

So apparently I missed this somehow while posting above.
YES that will make all the difference. All speakers need an enclosure to work. What is the room size? I would NOT install that thing into a wall. Find a better driver, and build an appropriate enclosure.

Return the sub and amp. Even installed inwall or in a box the rated response is 30-50hz. It's almost useless.

I saw that FR too. Later found it to say 30-500hz. Still, just about 4.2 million better options.

Depends what those details are for the box volume and type, they are important....best way is to model the box with the driver's t/s (thiele/small) parameters with specific software like winisd or bassbox pro etc.

ps but like William says, an 8" is fairly limited to start.
