I thought it was worth a follow-up.

What if you independently financed a film to maintain creative control just so you could stick the middle finger to your audience because they have an expectation of what a horror movie should be???? Chainsaw 4 has all the basics but nothing ever makes sense. Vilmers truck even has "illuminati" painted on its side. He has robotic leg. Leather face appears to be trans. An ex porn Star flashes her tits for no apparent reason etc. The ending appears to be apologizing for this terrible movie. Think about that. It's one of the greatest reviews and ideas ever. And again not because of what's in the movie.

I love his explanation of the deus ex in the ending with the yellow plane coming out of nowhere to hit Vilmer. There's an old couple drinking bloody mary's in an RV. Like, wow. You made this entire movie with no scene ever making any sense. All with the artistic intent of not making any sense and being such high level absurdity. And you went through independent channels to do it. There's been Ed Wood. A terrible director who believed he could make good movies. Or the recent director with brain damage to explain how bad it was. But the guy who co-wrote the original. Has there ever been the idea of a potentially competent director intentionally making a bad movie. That's just incredible.

When we got home from our Saturday hike our son was watching all 4 Pirates of the Caribbean movies and we caught the last one. I need to watch more of my blue-rays. The surround audio track is fabulous compared to any streaming service I have used. My wife and son both agreed that the audio really added a lot to the movies. Might have to experiment with the Shield Pro and see if it does a better job with Disney+ than the cable box.

Sat and watched 3 things last night:

Mr. Harrigans Phone -----> from a Stephen King short story. Weird movie that had a tough time deciding what it wanted to be. Not sure how I felt about it.

Resident Evil --------> the Netflix series. Episode 2 last night. I'm really enjoying this so far. Very well done.

Live. Die. Repeat. Edge of Tomorrow --------> I love this movie. I could watch it over and over again. Not sure what viewing this makes, but it's a lot. I always forget how comedic Tom Cruise's deaths are in this movie, I was laughing my head off. My favorite sci-fi movie in the last ~10 years.

Going to watch the season finale of The Rings of Power, and another episode of Resident Evil tonight.

I feel like the grandpa that looked dead getting up and walking out was a metaphor for, like, the franchise/the early films? And how it's so old and played out that it's basically dead, but once it sees where the franchise has now gone it recognizes how garbage it is and decides to leave the movie-- the heart and soul of the original movies has been yanked out, leaving the films from now on out a sad and withered husk.

I also liked the comment about Zellweger's character is climbing the house antenna to escape Leatherface but also to escape the movie.

Ah I was trying to think of that really bad movie. It's "The Room" by Tommy Wiseau. From what I remember it did the rare achievement by being worse than Plan 9 From Outerspace LOL. James Franco was in The Disaster Artist which based on Wiseau.

That title made me think of "Cube". Apparently there are several Cube movies but the first and only one I've seen is the Canadian version from 1997 by Vincenzo Natali. Great psychological thriller although I haven't seen it for quite a few years. Good Halloween movie.

I saw that one many years ago, and the actor David Hewlet went on to the sci-fi series Stargate Atlantis a few years later as the character Rodney McKay.

Yesterday I rewatched an old Top Gear (UK) episode (Season 6, Ep 7), where Sabine drives a Ford Transit van around the Nürburgring ring. I miss both Sabine and the old Top Gear old crew. The Grand Tour is occasionally brilliant, but not the same thing.

I loved Top Gear (not the new one) ever since I bought a 2011 Ford Fiesta SES in Lime Squeeze (man, I loved that car - Euro spec for US roads) and a friend showed me the Top Gear review on, in essence, my exact car. I can't find the original full clip on YT, so it is broken down into two incomplete parts:

After that, I watched the show religiously. Was saddened when they were cancelled but very excited when the TGT was announced. The first three seasons were excellent, the latter two kind of meh. I recently watched "A Scandi Flick". It was alright - a little too scripted... Clarkson and May's side series are really good, I could not watch Hammond's, it was so stupid.

There were always complaints about Top Gear being too scripted, They even did one "unscripted" episode to address precisely that.
To be fair Scandi Flick (spoilers ahead), I thought was one best TGT episodes, maybe almost as good as Mongolia's one. James's "little" accident seemed unscripted to me.

Thats what makes Chainsaw 4 so bizarre. I can never really put my finger on if it's intentional or not? Girl stuttering, is she really like this or acting? Is the Heather character really a ditz, or just great acting? You're boyfriend cheated on you, so why are you still with him? Someone in a car drives by a yells an expletive. That's really bizarre you decided to flash your tits. Usually don't you just give them the finger??? Is it illuminati, or is there some type of meta commentary??? Don't know. There's the hook and freezer scene taken right from the original. That's really weird after Leatherface starts screaming in anxiety. We're these spur of the moment decisions??? It exists within the Chainsaw universe and yet it doesn't. I can never pinpoint what it is or it's motivations. It has that odd distinction of being undefined. All other schlock I can find something to grab onto for meaning yet this bizarrely evades any intent or meaning. In that regard its endlessly fascinating.

The jump scare where Zellweger looks behind her and as she looks back forward a trash bag blows I'm her face. Classic.

I caught it earlier than expected, it was on the menu for tonight rather than last night but being on west coast it was available soon after the game.....second episode was pretty strong, too.....didn't realize Nolan was involved until seeing the credits. Looking forward to episode 3.
