Troubleshooting advice

Hi all ,
Can anybody assist with some steps to take to troubleshoot a non-working powered Polk subwoofer? I’m getting ready to set up my 7.1 system and it has dawned on me I have a nice extra JBL powered subwoofer 12 inch that’s hooked up to my garage receiver and it would probably work well as a 7.2. My other sub is an SPL 100 by Klipsch. However I do have a poke 10 inch powered sub that I had gotten that doesn’t appear to work is there any steps I could take to troubleshoot whether it’s the amp. Or the speaker? Because if I can get that working that would work well in my garage and I could put the JBL paired up with my SPL 100 in the basement HT room

It is unlikely to be the speaker, but sometimes the connecting wire falls off.

Remove the driver, and make sure it is connected. If the wire if off connect it. If the wire is on, then do the battery test on the speaker. Take a 1.5 volt battery and connect it on and off to the speaker terminals. The cone should move in and out as you connect and disconnect. If it does, it is the amp and not worth fixing, but you could buy another plate amp, or use it as a passive sub, with an external amp.

90% of the time with an older sub the capacitors in the amp in the sub fail. If you don't know how to repair electronics, replacing it would be better than fixing it.

It's the heat in an enclosed space that destroys subwoofer amplifiers. I really doubt that replacing caps would solve the problems. Did you experience with such capacitor replacement?

The heat cycling kills the caps first. Yes, I have experienced it twice. They typically replace the amp, not the caps, because the repair cost is as much as the amp.

If you had a spare amp on hand you could revive it with, maybe....otherwise time to get something better. I did like the "poke" sub description even if that's just a voice translation thing :)

I caught that too. Intentional or unintentional, it got a laugh.
