Hi,
I used to own a Yamaha RX-V377 AVR paired to a Bose Acoustimass 10 series 4 5.1 system (Yeah I know they aren’t great but they’re my dad’s and they sound fine)
The RX-V377 malfunctioned and it’s not communicating with the system anymore, and I tried it with other speakers and it doesn’t work. So I assume it’s dead, anyways I need some suggestions for a new AVR which will be compatible with the Bose Acoustimass 10 series 4 system. I had my eye on the Yamaha RX-V6A but I’m not sure if it’ll work or not. Please help and suggest some receivers that’ll work with it.

If it works with the RX-V377 it will work with the RX-V6A. It most likely will work with any current Yamaha AVR models. Make sure you have all the necessary cables that came with the Bose system though, especially the one with a multi pin connector:

Thanks a lot man, it’s a rather weird speaker system, so I had to assure myself that I’m gonna be okay with the RX-V6A

By the way, just fyi, the V6A has preamp outputs for the front left and right channels. That is a good future proof feature if you plan on using some real hifi speakers that may need more power output than the AVR can offer. Yamaha seems to be the only one that has such potentially useful feature on even entry level receivers.

Another idea for the old Yamaha avr is if it stays on long enough to do a full reset (may be called factory or microprocessor reset) to try that before giving up on it. Even if you do decide to get a new unit, always nice to have another available to use elsewhere rather than pitching it out....
