Hi everyone,

long time lurker first time poster.

I’ve been waiting for this day, but finally the mrs has had the idea we should turn out front room into a cinema / big screen room! I’ve been waiting to do it for years!!

it’s not the biggest, 4.6m x 4m. With the sofa/ couch going against the wall as you enter. The screen on the wall directly in front. I’ve been using the play bar with sub and 2 x play1s for years but with the new room I’m looking at making the rears into in ceiling with an arc under the 130inch screen.

would rears be ok directly above the seating area? I don’t really have the option of moving the sofa forward to allow for anything else.
Pic attached to show the sofa position in the room.

many thanks forany help you can give me.

Above on the ceiling is for Dolby atmos and dts x.

The side surrounds should be 110-120 degrees and around ear level or slightly higher.

You are unwilling to move the couch. Don't say can't

If I move it I’ll be around 2m from the screen, and blocking the other set of doors.

Assuming a fairly poor setup 5.1 system using the Sonos instead of a proper AV receiver and speakers, you should put the surround speaker to the left and right of the couch on the walls for fairly decent imaging. It's not best, but gets the surround sound to the sides and opens the space up some.

You will have bigger issues with most projectors as they rarely have optical audio output and if they do, it may not be in full surround sound. Though, I would seriously consider the BenQ X3000i if it fits your space as I believe that model supports a fair bit of connectivity. Unlike a TV, do NOT assume a projector with have the proper connectivity your speaker bar needs.

That said, you can pick up a HDMI audio extractor with Toslink digital optical audio output for under 50 bucks on Amazon.

At the end of the day, I would put in an AV receiver and proper speakers. Cheap in-wall speakers at $40 each will sound a great deal better than the Sonos.
