Definitive Technology Center Channel

I currently own a pair of Def Tech BP30's which I love. As I am woking to pull my home theater together I am wondering which center channel would be best to match up with these front speakers. Obviously my first thought was to get a Def Tech center channel but if there are better options I am open to suggestions.

Also in the wake of Onkyo claiming bankruptcy, and that being my go to AV Receiver what suggestions would you have for me to run a 7.2 surround system?

Well, the Onkyo thing seems to be a communication snafu to an extent; apparently Voxx is planning on continuing with their avr brands (Onkyo and Pioneer). There's some info here https://www.audioholics.com/news/despite-bankruptcy-onkyo-pioneer-elite-av-drives-on

I don't really have any center suggestions, not that familiar with DT offerings either....when I last went looking for a center I got the Infinity RC263 which is a nice center but not available any more....

I think I got the CLR 2000 to pair with my BP30 speakers when I purchased them around 20 years ago. Seemed like a good way to go, and I have no real complaints. I think the BP30's are nicer than the CLR, but it is what it is. I run the CLR with a bit more gain than the BP30s.

I’ve gone through BP2000’s, 2004TL’s and 8060’s over my random years of owning Def Tech products. With the BP’s what I ended up doing was using a single SM350 and than SM450 and it performed beautifully. I wanted to find a PM700 but wasn’t ever able to find a functional pair or even single bookshelf

I think a BIG center speaker is important for DYNAMICS to keep up with the other 2 big front towers and subwoofers.

My system is made up of Def Tech BP30's front and Def Tech DI5.5BPS for side surrounds and rear surrounds DI6.5R ceiling speakers. The subwoofer and center channel are the last two pieces of the theater I need to establish. Based off input here and friends I am leaning toward the CS9080 center channel from Def Tech just to keep everything in the same family. As for the subwoofer, with a budget in play here, probably only going to do 1 subwoofer but unsure what to brand or size to go with. Any thoughts? As for the display it most likely will be a Sony but with the lack of chips for the panels its hard to get a good one picked out when there never is stock to purchase.

I wouldn't get a DefTec sub in any case. Look at SVS, Hsu Research, Rythmik, Monolith and other sub specialists.....

To second what William and HD said avoid Def Tech subs. I’ve had Supercube 1 and 2’s as well as a pair of ProSub1000’s and they were easily bested by a number of other subs I eventually owned. There’s also about a dozen broken SuperCube III’s on eBay so I would specifically avoid those as well

Forgot to ask what's the budget(s) for the shopping trip?

I used a PM500 with my BP10b speakers (4 towers) for many years as the matching 2 way center didn’t sound right in my room and my crappy subwoofer was not large enough or designed well enough to help much. The PM500 did well. The PM500 eventually got damaged after about 13 years so went back to a 2 way center for a bit. Ended up being a good excuse to retire the entire Def Tech setup after 15 years of service.

Now I have Canton speakers for the past few years and an Atmos 5.1.4 setup and a decent subwoofer from Rythmik. My Canton center is a 3 way design. The Canton stuff was all 60 percent off back then.

The CS9080 is not in the same family as the BP30, that's where the CLR2000 is. The 9080 has an internal powered subwoofer, which I would absolutely avoid from Def Tech. Year after year after year their amps regularly fail, bringing the entire speaker down overall, and you end up paying for a weaker than industry standard subwoofer that you should not. I gave it a LOT of thought when I was making my purchases years ago and went out of my way to avoid their speakers with integrated subs specifically due to their reliability and performance issues.

Much better to sink that money into a better subwoofer rather than a weaker center channel.
