I have a Sony multi channel A/V receiver STR DH590 60hz 200 watt with a pair of Klipsch RF62
8ohm 125 watts & an old pair of Klipsch KG 4 60ohm 100 watts speakers & a Klipsch R125W subwoofer
It sounds good but I want to get some more out of the speakers…large room!

The speakers may not sound any better with more power/higher volume levels. The wattage ratings of speakers don't mean a lot in this regard, they're more about limits before damage. The sub doesn't matter as it has it's own amp. You probably just need better speakers.

Also, the rating of the amp for the Sony avr is not the same spec most of us use for comparison. Generally folk like to see at least a 2ch full band (20hz-20khz) output at 8 ohm with a very low THD rating....(doesn't mean the amp can't go beyond that, just how clean it is at that particular power spec)

To add onto what HD said you may not like the horn tweeter sound Klipsch is known for. All the speakers listed are quite easy to drive, in all reality you may want to upgrade speakers. That being said what’s your budget for an amp?

I am pleased with the sound of the speakers, was just wondering if I could get more volume? They sound great just like they are but from time to time when that mood hits…it’s like I want it louder!! I could go about $500 on a new amplifier if at all possible…thank you to those that have posted…

I’m impressed by all the responses!!

Are you saying you can't get enough volume with the current amplification?

Those speakers are over 90 dB efficiency. They've been tested here and were discovered to have an efficiency of 92dB at 2.83v/m. That means it only takes 1 watt to get them to reach 92 dB at a distance of 1 meter away. With even a modest amplifier you can push them above 100 dB rather easily. That's pretty freaking loud for 99% of people. How loud are you trying to get with them? What are your room dimensions?

The problem you're going to have is that your receiver doesn't have pre-amp outputs, so there's no easy way for you to add an external amp for your speakers.

Room is about 50X50 it’s an add on & yes I understand my Sony is not able to connect to an amp just need a bit more on the volume…I can open the room up to the outside via folding glass doors…I guess I just need to purchase another system for my outside porch off of den…the Klipsch speakers with the sub have a great sound, it’s loud but you can still have somewhat of a conversation due to the crispness, with no distortion whatsoever! I’ve had the Klipsch speakers since back in the late 70’s had a pair of cornerhorns back then but due to divorce we’ll you know how that goes…I think that is why I wish I could go louder because they were phenomenal…if I had lived in the city I would’ve gone to jail for breaking the law disturbing the peace for sure! LOL. I’m impressed with the amount of advice I can get here, you guys know your stuff…I’ll be rocking out til I’m 80!

50x50 is pretty big. You're gonna need a bigger boat :)

It doesn't matter if the room is 5000 FT x 5000 FT. The only thing that matters is how far you sit from the speakers.

If you sit 50 FT AWAY from the speakers, that's important.

Well, this isn't a small statement.

You cannot connect your Sony to an external amplifier to power the speakers at all. So, you can't just 'get more volume'. You need a way to connect a amplifier to your receiver to get volume control properly. Otherwise, you can buy an amp with a lot of power, but sources would need to be connected directly to that amp and you just toss the Sony to the side since it doesn't support an external amplifier at all.

An amp like this will give you a ton more power to work with, but without a preamp to go along with it, then you are doing a lot of wiring anytime you want to use it...
