RAC to XLR Female for Sub

Hi Guys,

I have an Arcam AV41 and my subs are 2 sb2000's. Since my subs don't have XLR but my AV Pre does can I get RCA to XLR cable? Would that cause any issues? I know the Arcam is not fully balanced anyways but wanted to make sure such cable would be okay.

Yes.
You just need to make certain the Pins on the XLR are soldered properly for the cable you buy.

I just purchased these:

You can see in the wiring diagram how the cable is wired. Your AVR should have a similar instruction printed by the XLR outs, or if not, call customer service to confirm the pins.

When it comes to db levels between rca / xlr would affect sound? Will the processor just take as any other sub? Sorry for the dumb questions. I've never done rca (sub) to xlr (processor) before.

I can't answer that question directly.
I would think it would not make much difference as the Balanced connection is where XLR gains. If it is not balanced to begin with... ???
Keep in mind, you can still fall back on taking that RCA end and "y"-ing it out to the L/R RCA inputs on the sub. It is said that you get an SPL increase (I can neither confirm nor deny).
It will usually strengthen the signal enough to help trigger Auto-On features.

Why bother? It's still going to be unbalanced, may as well just use an rca cable. If the converter cable was all you had, it'd work, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy another cable.....

Does the Arcam offer both RCA and XLR?
If the latter, I agree... Just use straight RCA.

Ah.
They also make XLR to RCA adapters... so not a full cable, but just a converter.
Same would apply, you need to make certain the pins are wired properly.

I was glancing thru the AV41 manual, didn't see the bit about differences between rca vs xlr for subs....can you point me at the particular part of the manual?

I did not check in the manual. I got the information from a local home theater store here in Denver. If I could keep just the regular speakers in XLR from my monolith 7x (Native) and the subs RCA and still have the power to calibrate them independently (delay) that would be great.

Odd they'd setup different capabilities for xlr vs rca. Personally I trust manuals more than salesmen. Have you tried using the rca for what you want to do?

I haven't tried yet since I'm waiting my UMIK-1 to arrive. The mic that comes with it is horrible. I also need to buy the 500 USD license to have bass management.

In what respect is the mic that comes with the unit horrible? I'd try with the rca ports before I bought any further cabling/adapters....

ps curious, have you set the system up at all yet? Or just making some changes recently?

A lot of folks had some inaccurate measurements with the original mic also sometimes dirac would just fail to take a measurement. I'm changing from denon receiver to a monolith 7x amp and arcam av40. I'm running xlr for the speakers and will use the regular RCA for the subs.

Why use the xlr? Your amp is a long distance from the pre-pro? A lot of people complain about a lot of stuff, but just because they complain doesn't mean they're right. The mics used for setup generally are adequate for their intended use (but generally are compensated with a calibration file). I do wonder if there is some reason the pre-pro can't use xlr and rca simultaneously....but that still seems odd.
